This company called me to book in a free plumbing inspection as I have used them in the past. Both days that I had them booked, I stayed home waiting and was then told at the end of the day that they wont be able to make it.ProStar Plumbing Heating & Air Response

Hi Laurie thanks for leaving us a review again. We have provided your parents with multiple options and they selected the ones they wanted. For you to call and threaten me on multiple occasions to tell me to lower our price on the work we have done and performed is your choice. We have completed the work and have 6 options that we provided. You were not present at any of these times. To compare us to a company that is unlicensed, uninsured and where employees are not background checked, is asking us to cut corners. And we will not cut corners. I’m sorry you feel your parents were overcharged. It they were charged correctly for the work that was done.Review from Victoria N

**** ***** ** * ****!! Outrageous!ProStar Plumbing and Heating June 30th, 2023 I was charged $869.40 for a job that took less than 20 mins.a man named **** did the install and raved about an online review where we could win prizes for filling it out. I emailed ProStar to complain about the price. ***** got back to me and told me the part ; WALTEC faceplate cost from their suppliers is $589.00. And install labour was $45.00 the remaining fees went to overhead costs.I researched and found **** Hot -Cold Faucet Control online for $177.71, other similar parts to fix our shower/bathtub faucet hot&cold running at the same time issue. Average prices under $300.00.I am a retired grandmother and feel I have been scammed and taken advantage of.ProStar Plumbing Heating & Air Response

******************* we are sorry you feel the price is too high for your rental property that your tenant lives in. We always go over all pricing before we start the job and we gave you several options to choose. If you felt the price was too high you could simply just say no and not have the work done. You called a profesional service company to do the work. Perhaps a ****** plumber who is unlicensed, not insured, and background checked could fit the budget you have in mind.
We have all the tracking, and the phone calls recorded with us going over the pricing. And the time the technician was in the house.
We provided every aspect of our pricing to you, and you wanted to go ahead with the work. If you had a price objection Im not sure why you choose to have the work done?

As a disclaimer all prices listed have been rounded down to the nearest $5 and names of companies have not been used but will be provided if Prostar requests they be added. My father who is in his 70's recently used this company to his dismay. They did a simple cartridge replacement for a shower at their home and he was charged in the neighborhood of $650 for a part replacement that took under half an hour. I contacted them on his behalf and after multiple inquiries into why they were charging such an exorbitant fee I was told it was for the cost of the part which I found out was Delta WWG4NLN3 that can be purchased online at reputable websites for $160, Prostars price was $470. I understand that warranty and shipping costs need to be added by a business but I also know that is not the price they would have paid through a distributor. I was challenged during the call to check with other plumbing businesses during the call so I have done so, a local company with a 4.4 star ****** rating quoted $330 which was the high point and the lowest was $310 by a local company with a 4.9 ****** rating all for the same service and part. I did not ask for a quote for what was replaced which was a much lower cost ball, seats, and springs setup which would have reduced the cost even further. If you want more examples look at their 1 star reviews and you will see a consistent pattern. If your more interested check their 5 star reviews and where they reside, I can confirm they offer a draw for a $500 gift card in a follow up email if you give them a 5 star review. As an additional issue they claimed to have replaced the trim which was not done and my father also confirmed that it was a ball, seats and springs that was replaced, in his words... I was standing over him and he took a metal ball, 2 black washers and 2 springs out of a bag an installed them. At the least they could have aligned it properly but it needs to be at the 5 o'clock position to stop dripping.ProStar Plumbing Heating & Air Response

Hi ****** thanks for your review, we charge a flat price that is quoted before work is started. Sorry if you feel that our prices are to high compared to other competitors. We stand behind our price and warranty. Some companies charge more, some charge less. We charge what we charge to provide outstanding service, and ensure that work is done correctly and to code. I rather have a customer have an issue with pricing then workmanship.Any issues please give our office a call at ************Review from Shari A

DON’T HIRE THIS COMPANY! Pro-Star assisted with a sewer backup and my experience dealing with them was nothing short of horrendous. Overcharged and didn't do the job right. I advised the owner *****, that I was going to share my experience with a ****** review. He then started yelling, told me if I gave them a bad review he would have his lawyer contact me with a cease and desist order and sue me for slander. He then went on to say that I was acting like a child and that he would find out where I worked and give me a bad google review. Seriously, what kind of a business owner treats people like this. I have never experienced unprofessionalism to this magnitude and to threaten me is beyond unacceptable. I posted the google review and he responded to it with false accusations. He said he has me recorded threatening his staff and being very hostile, which is not the case. I responded to his accusations stating they were not true, that I called the police and was reporting him to the BBB. He also posted my personal information in his reply, privacy breach!ProStar Plumbing Heating & Air Response

Hi David we charged a $99 service call which we stated before arriving and then gave your wife 4 options on how to proceed. It looks like she choose the hand Auger for 257 dollars. Our Technician did let the office know that he could smell a heavy amount of alcohol on the client and left a note in the observation form. ******* ***** **** ********* Client was very intoxicated, not sure how much attention was paid to service. All valves were opened and closed by her only. Our technician was in the home for 53 minutes and took 20 min to dispatch to the home. Not sure how you are saying we were in the home for 5 min when you were not at the address. But we do have all the software to track time working in the home as well as time dispatched to the house. If you were unhappy with the quote provided you could always say no and find another company with rates that are more suitable for you.Review from Ivy D

On July 16th I went to my basement and discovered I had sewer back up on the floor. Because this had happened before and I had to rip out my whole finished suite I didn’t do my due diligence in selecting a Plumbing Company. I checked plumbers on the BBB site and called ProStar Plumbing. On July 17th Darcy (from ProStar) came and quoted me $******** to install a backwater valve. This would include removing some of the concrete to expose the pipe, installing the valve and pouring new concrete to cover the hole. Darcy said he needed $******** to secure the job and this money wasn’t refundable. I gave him my credit card and he put through the charge. On July 20th a (young) man came with a jackhammer and proceeded to remove the necessary concrete. He was here between 2.5 - 3 hours and then left leaving broken concrete piled on the floor. Spoke to Darcy again who advised me that there was more work than was first thought but wouldn’t expand on what this meant. He also wouldn’t give me the additional cost involved. After this conversation I thought I should check with other plumbers as to what they thought the cost should be. One said it shouldn’t be more than ½ of what was quoted for the whole job ($********) and I should call ProStar and request $******** back from my deposit as even at the outside for 3 hours labor already done it shouldn’t be more than $******. The 2nd plumber said for the total job he charges between $******** - $********. These quotes are $******* and $******** - $******** less than Prostar. After speaking to the other two plumbing companies I called ProStar and advised I wouldn’t be needing their services any longer and asked for $******** of the $******** back as there was very little work actually done. The concrete removal wasn’t even completed. The owner of the company (Carlton) called me back and was extremely abrasive. He wouldn’t concede to anything. I told him I had conversations with two other plumbing companies and the consensus was that ProStarr was gouging. He said I would be hearing from his lawyer; so far nothing. Probably because at the time of this report I haven’t yet made a complaint with the BBB, the Federal Trade Commission and the Consumers’ Association of Canada. The owner also wanted to know the names of the other Plumbing Companies. I told him I wasn’t divulging that information at this time because according to some reviews on Google he goes after other companies by leaving untrue negative reviews. He said his lawyer does this not him. I was also asked the same question by Brian, the person sent back to collect the jackhammer and I responded to him with the same answer. When researching Prostar it seems they operate under three different names and at least three different addresses. The membership form shows the address as ***** **** * ** ** ** Invoice shows the address as ********* ******* ***** ** and the company name is Service King. AND ProStar Plumbing, Heating and Drains On the Google and BBB sites they are listed as ProStar at **** ****** *** *** Interestingly they do not have an email address listed on any of their sites. You have to call them which leaves no record of what was actually discussed. Another investigation would be to see if this company(s) has a current Prepaid Contractors’ License. If they do, and according to Alberta Licensing they cannot charge more than 10% of the total quoted job or $1,000.00 whichever is LOWER. In my case that would be $****** maximum not $********. I am 71 years old, have dealt with many contractors in my life but have NEVER experienced such ********** ************* ******* people in my ENTIRE life.
