In November of 2023, we contacted South Shore for service and learned heat exchanger was cracked in 5 year old York furnace. We were informed that carbon monoxide was detected and could become a serious problem. Subsequently, we received an estimate from South Shore based on replacing the furnace that would be provided free under warranty from York/******* Controls. The estimate was for 2 men, 1/2 day @$1,500/$200.00 materials or $1,700.00 less an $875.00 labor allowance provided by York. Accordingly, we were responsible for $837.50 and we had no choice but to agree considering the carbon monoxide problem. We questioned the labor charge and asked if it would be less if the job took less time. The 2 servicemen installed the furnace on 11/20/24 in a total time of 2 1/2 hours including the removal of the old unit. We have repeatedly requested consideration for the actual time on the job without any response from South Shore including ***** MacFarlane, VP of the company. The last invoice we received is for $444.06 reflecting the total bill less the $400.00 we paid in January in good faith, plus a finance charge. We believe the $187.50 per man, per hour for 4 hours is excessive considering the actual time spent and acceptable labor rates for this work. Some people might call it gouging.

In 2014 I lost my heat. I went thru **** Save and got the go ahead to replace my heat system.I contacted South shore for a quote and in good faith I hired them. The new energy efficient unit was to go back into the crawlspace where the old heat unit was. Every year or every other year since 2014 I had South shore come out to inspect and check the unit. Last Jan 2023 the tech told me there was water rusting around the base of the unit but never inspected where the water was coming from. I trusted him to swap out my filter. Every time South shore comes it's at least ****** for the inspection. In August of 2023 I started experiencing no-see-ums coming thru my hvac ducts once my air conditioning was off. On inspection there was 4 inches of rot on my heat unit due to the heat condenser not draining properly and water pooling around the unit because it did not have enough room to be pitched for the water to drain as it was on its side. Also the tech in jan 2023 put in a 20 x 20 x 1 filter in a slot made for a 20 x 25 x1 filter so the no-see-ums had 5 inches to go thru from the still water pooling around my unit into the ducts to live, breed and eventually make there way up thru the ducts into my house and infest my entire house. I called South Shore, sent pics and asked them to come out and help me. The unit is still under warranty and if it can't go in the basement where they put it then they should have worked with me on the next steps and been of good faith and back their install and maintenance. They have not called nor have I received a call from the operations manager of ********* which is South Shores parent company. . I am now going thru Mass save after 9 years of owning this system and putting in a new system in my attic which I have to pay for again. South shore is not reputable and I will be contacting the board of health as well. Living with no-see-ums biting me is simply awful.

I have two issues. 1) In April 2022 they did work on our heating system. We had a contract. They suggested that they remove the antifreeze from our system. And we said okay. In doing this the antifreeze got into our lawn and killed the grass in that area. This was about a 3-4 foot circle plus areas they walked-on. We had them come back the next day and they seeded the area. This process didnot wor. Since then we tried to seed the area and a landscaper also tried. None of this attempt worked. About 9/12/2023 I called asking that they come and do a prober repair, this would include digging up the about 4 inches. They sent me an email refusing to do this work. I made a second call asking to reconsider and they did not return my call. On my next call they said no again.. As result we had to do the repair ourselves.Issue 2) As mention we had a contract with them and it included a Cleaning. We had no intention to renew the contract but we wanted them to honor the cleaning. When we tried to set a date they claimed that our contract had expired and we would have to sign a new contract. Based on these two incidents I think giving them 1 star is generous.

We are sorry to hear about the challenges you've faced. We deeply regret any inconvenience caused due to the antifreeze spill and subsequent landscaping issue. Regarding your request for repair, our team followed the recommended procedure for remediation and offered assistance at the time. As for the contract cleaning, our policy typically requires an active contract for services. While we understand your frustration, our stance remains unchanged. If there's any way we can address your concerns moving forward, please feel free to reach out.
