On October 5th, 2021, The Geheren Law Firm handled the closing for my house at *******************************************************. I was the buyer and *************************** was the seller. At closing, $667 was collected from me toward the 2021 taxes. I paid Geheren $804. The *************** collects taxes in two installments which is clearly marked on their website. In April 2022, I went online to see what I would owe for the first installment of 2022. I discovered that the second installment for 2021 had never been paid and that it had been added to my account. Also, a lien would be placed on my house if the late taxes were not paid by the end of April. I determined the prorated taxes at closing were based only on the first installment of taxes. I contacted *****************************, the closing attorney, and informed him of their mistake. He agreed that a mistake had been made and that the prorations were incorrect. Those prorations were made by his firm. He then redid the math with the correct 2021 taxes. **************** would owe me $1953.69 after I paid the *************************************************************************************************** the tax ****. But this situation was unusual. The difference in the amounts is not because of changes the *************** made in the tax **** or because of errors on my part. It was because of gross negligence by the closing attorney in determining the amount of taxes owed by the seller and buyer. I did contact the seller, ****************, by phone and email. He never returned my calls or answered my emails. Geherens office said they would help me contact **************** but that never happened. Because of their error I have suffered a loss of $1954 and have not been reimbursed. Along with being a closing attorney, this firm is also a collections agency. They are completely capable of collecting the money from ****************. I am not. I want the Geheren firm to pay me $1954 I paid due to negligence, and to collect this amount from ****************.
