I applied to **************************************************** on 1/16/2023 and paid $75 for the background check. The next day, I receive notice from Appfolio that my background check came back and my application was denied for the apartment. When looking over the background report, several things were wrong. My credit score was roughly 70 points under what it actually is, it reported collections on my account when they have been disputed and deleted, and it said I lived at an address that I've never been to or lived at before. I tried to provide factual documents to prove the discrepancies and Power Properties said they didn't care, they only go off of the background report. I asked to have another company run a background check since Appfolio has actually been sued multiple times for reporting wrong information. They told me absolutely not, they only use Appfolio and there's nothing that can be done, I was denied. I tried to speak to anyone and everyone since they denied me off of wrong information and asked for at least a refund of $75 since I paid to have an accurate background check done and since that was not the service I received and expected, I want my money returned to me. They told me they will not be refunding me whatsoever. Upon investigation, Power Properties has actually denied an applicant because of their *** (which is illegal) and then tried to cover up their mistake once documentation was provided but they waited until the apartment the applicant applied for was rented by someone else. I as well have an *** and am very suspicious that this company is fraudulently taking application fees and denying people so they can keep the application fee.
