Better Business Bureau Pacific Southwest, Central & Inland California (BBB) proudly awarded five scholarships to high school students for their winning essays on “The Importance of Character and Ethics.” Held annually, the contest encourages students to share a personal experience about doing the right thing when they face an ethical dilemma.
2025 Ethical Torch Essay Scholarship winners:
- First Place of $1,500: Daniel Zhang from Canyon Crest Academy
- Second Place of $1,250: Aidan Harrison from Westview High School
- Third Place of $1,000: Lucinda Anderson from Helix Charter High School
- Fourth Place of $750: Delaney Shamaya from Steele Canyon High School
- Fifth Place of $500: Bezawit Ketema from San Ysidro High School
This year’s first-place winner, Daniel Zhang of Canyon Crest Academy, shared a powerful lesson from the chessboard. In one pivotal match, he chose integrity over victory, proving that true leadership is rooted in values.
“I am truly honored to be named a BBB Ethical Torch Essay Scholarship winner. This recognition reminds me that achievement means little without integrity, and I plan to carry that lesson with me as I move forward,” said Daniel Zhang.
