I had a one-night Oximetry meter test done in July 2024. Some months prior I had a sleep study completed. The cost of the home sleep study was $400 (through the clinic not a Providence facility). The Oximetry Meter was ordered through Providence St. ******* Pulmonary. I received the bill from Providence about 1 month ago. The charge was $1700 (my out of pocket $1400). How is it possible that they can ***** so much for these charges. I have called Providence Billing (some kind people who couldnt help and one extremely rude gal that told me I clearly didnt understand what I had done and should talk to my ************ is that what she calls compassion towards a patient experiencing issues). For other medical concerns I need MRIs every 18 months or so. Years ago, I did research and found numerous facilities that could perform the same MRI for $1500 vs Providence charging between $5000-$6000. Moral of the story, why the heck would I ever choose to have diagnostics, or anything done at Providence if there are other facilities that can do it for 20-30% of the cost. Whether I am paying my insurance is paying, I choose to be a good consumer and understand the cost. I am at a loss as to how this can be, and Providence has no outlet to get the resolved in a reasonable manner. So disappointed in a company that is marketed to be a non-profit. Clearly this is a for-profit organization that gets great tax breaks (but doesnt give patients a reasonable break).Providence Health & Services Response

A Providence Health and Services representative spoke with our patient by phone on 9/6/2024. Our representative was able to provide some information that we believe help ease the way for our patient in future visits.Customer Response

I was pleasantly surprised that a representative from the Providence *************** reached out a few days after my review. She was very polite. And explained why Providence charges are so high (though not at all to my satisfaction). I have worked in Finance and Accounting so I have more than an average understanding of how this works. And from my perspective, charging then end user such exorbitant fees is not the only way to manage your overhead. The end result was that the charges in their eyes were correct, but they would offer a 'good will' credit of $300 (on a $1700 charge). It was more than nothing to be sure, but much less than I would have hoped. I will definitely be letting the clinic that ordered the test from Providence know that in order to protect the interest of future patients, please consider not sending them to a Prov facility when other options are available. I have spoken to one representative already from the Clinic and they were quite shocked that it could possibly be that much. Their comment was for such a small portion of the test that they previously performed, she would have expected significantly less than the $400 that their clinic billed. Sadly, not true.Review from Claudia R

I was admitted to Providence Newberg Medical Center 2 days after delivering my infant at ****. I was admitted as I was hypertensive. Once admitted I was having what the doctor thought was psychosis but I was never connected to a mental health specialist or a counselor to speak to during my stay at the hospital. I was 2 days postpartum, had hardly slept and was experiencing symptoms of psychosis. When the doctor spoke to me she had mentioned that she would like to connect me to a counselor but my insurance plan is ****** and that it was best that I go to ****** Permanente for that. I didnt correct her or explain to her that I have added choice coverage (out of network benefits) and OHP open card as I felt as they dont want to help me and care for me. During my stay while experiencing psychosis and being sleep deprived I tried to leave the hospital AMA and even though this happened I was never connected to a counselor. I was visually upset and the doctors saw that I wasnt at my best and regardless I dont feel that I was given what I needed which was a mental health counselor to speak to. I tried to leave the hospital around 3 am against medical advise and something could have happened to me. I dont want someone else experiencing what I went through. In my records the doctor said that the trauma unit was going to talk to me during my stay and I never spoke to anyone in a trauma unit.Review from michelle k

So dont pay a bill without talking with someone there because if you just pay on your bill they will send it to collections and just make it out to be your fault for not getting your account set up right in their eyes. I had paid on a bill for almost a year and they sent it out after not calling me and talking with me first. they state that they sent letters in the mail and on the app and they did not.Review from CHRISTINA C

My experience with the Missoula, Mt., Providence system has been a complete disappointment. No one there cares about ANYTHING BUT THEIR FINAL DOLLAR! They are the worst of the worst when it comes to less than subpar care/customer service! I'd give a negative star number if it were allowed! They'd rather you died elsewhere than bother them, any of them, in ANY department! They desperately need *****!!!Review from David D

Ever since they switched to LabCorp things have gotten worse. They clearly have not looked at how patients are getting their labs. The **** charting system doesn't talk to the LabCorp system so you show at the lab having been told to "get labs" and the orders aren't there, which you find out after waiting for an hour at the lab. No one in the clinic seems to know how the new system works so good luck there. Another blow to a system that once was known for working well. Go elsewhere.Review from Pete C.

I was admitted to Sacred Heart Medical Center on September ***** 2023 for anemia. They put me in through the *** But instead of transferring me to the regular Hospital they kept me In ** as they said no rooms were available, which was bs. The ** rooms are 2 1/2 times more expensive than a regular hospital room. I was I 2 different ** rooms and both were not sterile, there was dried blood on both floors. I was getting blood transfusions so couldn't get out of bed and I filled up 7 urinals and they were never emptied while I was there. They sent me to the regular hospital the last night. I also had to get a cat scan and they used the same port as infusions and it blew up and my arm swelled to twice the regular size. I contacted Providence and asked them to rethink *******************, and all they told me was here is our number make arrangement to pay my bill. I want people to know how Providence doesn't care about any patients, and are understaffed because of greed. The *** and other officers of Providence need to get thier wages cut as the sure the heck aren't worth the money that they are getting paid. Hopefully others patients won't be treated like I was. I am not complaining about the staff that worked on me, they were very good at thier jobs. Out of the 4 nurses that worked on me 1 was a Sacred Heart employee and the other 3 were traveling nurses, again nothing bad about that. Just another showing of Providence's greed.Review from Alaina M

My son almost died here. I came in 3 days before an emergency c section stating decreased fetal movement. I was treated like a mental case, put on an SBC hold and gaslit. 3 days later he was born and needed 2 blood transfusions and over 10 day NICU stay. Nurses were so so mean and wrote awful things in my chart.Review from Louise S

In 2021 at Providence Monroe urgent care, someone else registered MY NAME as the financially responsible party for their child's urgent care visit. The bill was sent to collections and this is how I found out about it. Providence did nothing to help and told me I should just pay the $30 to the collections agency.Review from Nancy W

On November 15, 2023, I was offered an online interview for an Audiologist position at Providence in Newberg, OR, based on an application and resume submitted 11/14/23. I accepted the offer for interview and scheduled the interview for 11/17/23 at 12 PM. On 11/17/23, I logged in to the interview online and waited for about 20 mins in the Teams online meeting room for my interview to begin. When no one started the meeting I reached out to the recruiter via email to find out if everything was ok. He responded that he would contact the hiring mangager and get back to me shortly. I continued to wait in the online meeting room hoping the interview would begin shortly and there might be a technical error. About 40 mins after the interview was supposed to begin I received an email stating that my interview was cancelled. It did not have any explanation as to why it was cancelled which I found odd. A later follow up email was sent by the recruiter that read, She (hiring manager) declined the interview. Your experience is not a good fit for the clinic. I found it odd that my experiences and resume were sufficient to justify scheduling the interview, but now without conducting the interview, reviewing my experiences, or even discussing them with me, she says, I am not a good fit. I can only assume the hiring manager seen my name, or age on my resume, and then decided to use a generic claim that I am not a good fit for her clinic.Providence Health & Services Response
