In August 2022 we purchased what was supposed to be a new rebuilt engine and transmission from Tri Star engines and transmissions. In October of the same year we began to have problems with the engine. We took it to a local Chevy dealer for an inspection and found that the engine and the transmission were leaking. We informed Tri Star of this issue and Tri Star agreed to “replace” them. They instructed us to take our vehicle to another mechanic shop which we did. Once the vehicle was ready the mechanic informed us that he was instructed by Tri Star to only change the timing belt on engine. He had done nothing to the transmission. This was not what Tri Star told us was going to happen. We ended up taking the car back to Chevy once the engine started stalling and shutting off. Chevy informed us that the engine had several problem codes and both were in bad shape. Tri Star was contacted again. This time they agree to work hand in hand with the Chevy dealership. Tri Star agreed to send the Chevy dealership over another engine and transmission. However they do not want to pay the $189.00 per hour labor cost associated with the removal and replacement of the new engine and transmission. They are only authorizing $70.00 per hour. Each part carries the $70.00 per hour labor cost. We have suggested why not combine the two leaving only another $58.00 per hour more to be paid? Otherwise we would be required to pay roughly $3500.00 out of pocket which we should not be required to do. In fact we should be accommodated to the fullest possible extent at this point. We should have gotten what we paid for at the onset or at least when Tri Star promised to rectify the problem instead of only authorizing a timing change. A new engine and transmission should have been installed and we would not still be dealing with this situation. We have not been reimbursed for rentals, tows or storage fees and our warranties are nearly expired which seems to be the plan.
