WARNING: Mill Creek Family Eye Center does not provide your Pupillary Distance (PD) unless you buy glasses in their store!After getting my eye exam at this clinic, I was attempting to order new glasses the next day when I noticed that the box for PD was left blank on my prescription. I spoke with the co-owner of the practice who said that it was their policy to not provide PD with eye exams:First, they said that it was best for the patient to get this measurement from the merchant rather than the eye clinic. They said that measurements were dependent on frames, but when I asked whether my PD measurement would change with different frames they conceded that it wouldnt, and the prescription they already provided me had every measurement needed for ordering glasses except PD. I thought that it was standard practice for clinics to provide PD in an eyeglass prescription, but they responded that they are not aware of what other eye clinics do.Second, they said that providing PD would make them legally liable for any glasses sourced elsewhere. I was confused how the clinic could be liable for providing an accurate PD measurement. Wouldnt the glasses manufacturer be responsible for making glasses that match the specifications provided to them? They couldnt address my questions, so when I asked how they determined their legal liability in providing PD, they admitted to having no knowledge of actual legal cases against clinics/providers, and that their legal reasoning was based on what they have heard from others, and that this has just been their policy for 30 years.I let them know that their justification for not providing PD was not making sense, and it makes it seem like they are trying to discourage their patients from buying glasses outside of their store. Its my impression that this clinic is being run more like a business than a medical practice. I dont recommend coming here for your eye care, especially if you are a new patient or may be new to glasses.
