0 stars should be an option. This is a horrible company with absolutely no customer service. I began the process of closing an account 8 1/2 weeks ago. I would complete the paperwork they sent me, send it back, and then wait for my check. Unfortunately, the check never came. I would have to call them, only to find out they wanted the form signed in blue ink not black, or some such ridiculous excuse. But, they never bothered to tell me that. Over the ensuing 6 weeks, I jumped through many more hoops.Finally, I was told the check was mailed on July 11th. When I had still not received the check on the 22nd, I called once again. During that call, I found out the check had "slipped through the cracks", and had still not been generated or mailed. He indicated he was going to send an "elevated" request to get the check issued. I told him that I wanted it overnighted to me, along with the interest that had accrued since the day they actually closed the account out. Of course, they closed the account some time ago, so I'm not earning any interest on a very large amount of money.It's now the 25th, and the check that was supposed to be overnighted on the 22nd has still not arrived. HORRIBLE company, and they do not care care about their customers, which is evidenced by the fact that they never respond to any of these reviews. They don't care.Stay away from this company, and save yourself alot of grief!Review from Michelle P

Terrible customer service. Very slow to respond, if getting a response at all. Wanted to cancel my policy, had to call three times for assistance, but never got follow up, so found a form to submit cancellation myself online. Once cancellation was confirmed, I never got a refund for the remaining months paid (annually), and have been trying to reach customer service for a response for weeks now. Still trying to fight to get my refund.Review from Jennifer b

I am on **** Your payments are never the same date each month and once you are awarded Social Security, they take money you haven't even received saying the *** is a month behind and they are a month ahead although they delay your payments... I would NEVER EVER use this company again! People drawing *** are already stressed from lack of work but Symetra only adds to that stress. You are never told the same story...Review from Tracy D

Horrible service. I was out with hip replacement. Stayed out of work for over 4 months. They had tried every excuse not to pay me the full 12 weeks. I was also supposed to go on long term and this company didnt even fill their obligation of 12 weeks.Review from Sherri L

I give them a big fat ZERO!! I had back surgery in August and had no problem getting my short-term disability which was provided by free through my employer but I paid to have the extra long-term disability and file shortly before my short term was up. That was November 27, 2023. I was told once they got all the information it would only take 30 to 45 days until my payments started and that was 77 days ago and I still dont have my money. Run as far as quick as you can and if this is offered through your employer, *********************. RIDICULOUSReview from Linda D

If I could give zero stars,I would. This company,is the worst by far.Broken promises,reps,who don't know what they are doing.They lie to you.i asked for money,2 be sent out..their method,is to send it out Fed ex,signature required.Oh,hello??! Excellent customer service from ********************** Life ********************** today.It started this morning with a voice message from ******* to call them about the current policy I have and she wanted me to know about the cash value changes.I called back and ***********************, ***************** answered. After identifying my name and basic information, (so he could access my policy), he told me some options. I have had the policy for over 30 years, but the cash value keeps dropping.Those details prompted me to surrender the policy before the premiums would take a huge increase to keep the policy active. ****** explained my options and was very helpful answering my questions.I wanted Symetra management know that both ******* and ****** were very specific and I wanted to give both employees a 5 star rating.Review from Jennifer A

If I could give negative stars I would. symetra for all it's cost savings to the company/consumer are a dishonest, underhanded, greedy company. Short term and long term are "2 different animals" when it comes to documentation. Short term will "tell you" they have sent paperwork or requested paperwork but it doesn't happen. I had to do AAAALLL the work for them. I still didn't get paid timely, consistently, or for the last week I was out. My file was sent to Long term. *********************** was my rep. I was fired for taking long term for my disability, THEN after 5 months I get 1 check for the month of July in Dec. On Dec 12th. So I thought. ok I am approved, i should receive another payment on the 12th of Jan....Nope, Payments are suspended. Even if I rec'd twice what they pay me for some other payee I should still get a minimum of $179.00. But suspending payments when I have complied with EVERYTHING THEY ASK FOR. No. Run, run far far and really fast away from this dishonest company. I paid into the disability both long and short.....why, when I need it most are the holding my money hostageReview from Accountability D

Not at all shocked to see 1 stars across the board for Symetra. I dealt with all the delays, inefficiencies, disingenuous customer service, and lack of general guidance that everyone else described here. I also dealt with blatant discrimination from 4 customer service people who, even after I self-reported that I was nonbinary and used they/them pronouns, used she/her to refer to me in third person MULTIPLE times throughout our calls. Despite the fact that it is going to be **** in 3 days, I had to repeatedly them to stop "Ma'm-**** and "Miss-**** me, because apparently I missed the memo that if you are afab you deserve to be spoken to as if it is ****. Symetra has despicable customer service. Hey **********************, whenever you're done transferring all of these poor people who have actually suffered from real physical and/or emotional ailments around between your agents who have no idea how to help anyone...I have an idea. Why don't you check out the Health and Insurance Benefits and Services section under Title 9 that the US ********** of ******* has displayed at ************************************. I'm taking a look now, and it seems as though ya'll might want to read through what you're held to by the federal government in terms of respect to gender identiy.Review from David S

I had short term and long term coverage. I had a stroke went out on short term. Before my short term ended I started to initiate my Long Term coverage. I was under a year of coverage. I had massive trouble trouble. They said they requested all my medical records. Then I was informed they still had not received them. After consulting with my case manager she informed me she had to review my medical history for preexisting conditions. All of my Drs offices told me they had not received a request. I asked if they could send another request. I was told the company that handles that wouldnt. At which time I said ok so how do get you my records. After a cpl of weeks of calling them the request was sent. Over a month later I was denied on the basis of my failure to produce needed records. A couple of weeks earlier I went secured my records from the hospital. I was told my she needed them ASAP. I went to the *********** checked overnight was going to cost me almost $50.00. Mind you my short term pay ended 2 months prior. I decided to send it 2 day ground which was still $20.00. I received a call the tracking number was not showing its location. I called the next morning it showed it was received at 10:45am the previous morning. Yet I failed to do my part. Bull S.
