On September 12, 2024 I called the loan department looking for a personal loan to consolidate high interest loans mind you I’ve been with this credit union since I was 15 now I’m 63. The lady Amy and the Loan department downtown handled my request. She was very nice and did a professional job. My review comes from after she told me she would go ahead and apply, but because I had a record of slow pay in 2023 during the time of Covid, I had lost my job and my wife had lost her job and we had finally gotten back to work. We did not lose any loans or not pay any loans back. We were slow because you know unemployment doesn’t pay a whole lot and I was busy trying to get disability . So when I applied for the loan, the lady came back and told me well. You’ve had some slow pays, and our underwriters denied your denied your request for a loan to consolidate debt. I wasn’t looking for any more money at that time. I was told I did not qualify under the underwriters guidelines, it was sent to the underwriters and it was denied . Member one Credit union is a good credit union. They’ve been very nice to me over the years and have taken good care of me, but I do not agree with their underwriters because what they’re saying by denying my loan is it doesn’t matter about Covid. It doesn’t matter whether there’s a reason why you were late and slow, even though you didn’t get any loans or file bankruptcy held on when you get your credit back up and start filing for loans that have a decent interest rate they tell you know you had slow pays and your income debt ratio is not what we like I wasn’t asking to anymore debt only asking to consolidate some debt at a lower interest rate with a lower payment. It saddens me to have to say goodbye to Member One credit union, but I feel they discriminated against me because of my age more and more these days senior citizens are discriminated against and I feel this was one time I was discriminated against because of my ageReview from Gordon H

If possible I would leave negative stars. Worst bank of all time. The customer service is always horrible, they never actually do what they say/should/or are supposed to do. It took them 6 months to stop charging my business account a bad address fee when it was the exact same information as my personal accounts(no they wouldn't refun it any of the times it occurred). They completely failed to send me a new debt card.. TWICE! And then finally sent it, but to the wrong address (yes...after going over my address with them 6 or 7 times they still managed to mail it to a random place). They also like to hangup on you when they don't feel like doing anything, so you'll get to call them back two or three times everytime you try to talk to someone. Top to bottom just an absolute trash heap of a bank. I deeply regret ever using them.Review from Lydia C

I’ve been with Member One for 40 years and due to numerous issues over the years will no longer be banking with them. Rude customer service. Technical issues with their banking system. Unhelpful and untrained tellers. It has dissolved into a truly awful company.Review from Morean A

Amy from customer care was very rude and disrespectful and very unprofessional She called to ask about my accounts and ask when can I tend to the matter at hand dealing with my account and I told her when and she kept asking me the same questions over and over again.when do I get paid and I told her my checks were directly deposited into the bank every other week but wasn’t sure about the day cause it’s up to my job when the release the funds and for them to deposit it into the account she then told I quote ONE WAY OR ANOTHER I WAS GOING TO TELL HER WHEN I WOULD BE ABLE TO HANDLE MY ACOUNT SITUATION VERY RUDE AND this language is not bank terminology or friendly by any means whatsoever then I spoke with a supervisor after being put on hold sent to the wrong department and speaking to 4 to 5 different people she then told me that she never received any complaints on Amy before and she was going to talk with her and she was rude as well.Review from Kathryn T

I have had several issues with Member One throughout the years; mostly involving them cancelling or blocking my debit account due to fraudulent charges. I do totally understand why they would do this, however, NONE of the times this has happened have I been contacted to let me know what was going on. Today I went to use this card to buy dinner and groceries and discovered that my card was blocked. I contacted card services and tried to verify these charges with someone the first time; one of which I was not sure of because they could not tell me the amount. So the lady cancelled my card and informed me I would have to call or go to a branch to get a new card… THIS IS ALL UNDERSTANDABLE. I was throughly confused after my first call and decided to call back. This time I got Lynn. I explained calmly what happened and told her I was confused and would like to go back over those transactions with her to better understand why this was happening because I have no access to money until MONDAY when the branched open. Lynn was so condescending, rude, and belittling the entire call. I finally got fed up with how she was talking to me, asked for her name, and told her I will go to a branch and close my account with member one SOLELY because she was so rude. I’ve dealt with other rude employees throughout the years but after this frustrating encounter, I AM DONE. Don’t bank with them, it is wayyyyyyyy more trouble than it’s worth.Review from Brandey B.

Member One lost my truck title after I paid the truck off. They were given the proper address in January 2022 by my correct ID and the bank teller put in the wrong house number on my file. Now I have to go to the DMV myself to retrieve a duplicate title. Who knows where my title is and hopefully my criminal neighbors don't have the title in their hands. NEVER USE MEMBER ONE EVER FOR ANYTHING. The employees can't get their information correct when asking for help on ANY MATTER. They don't even deserve a 1 star rating right now.Review from Sandra R

My husband took out a personal loan with Member One. The staff was extremely helpful through the process. Recently he passed away, and I contacted them to let them know, and to check and see if he had any life insurance coverage on the loan, and if not, I was fully prepared to finish paying it off. I was told he did have some coverage, and I needed to present the necessary documents at my local branch to start the process of closing the account. I did that, and was told the balance of the loan would be paid in full. She said it would take around 60 days to close the account, and for me to not make any payments. I continued to receive statements/bills in the mail, and finally I called and was told to just ignore them. After around three months I got a hateful notice stating that the account would be turned over to their attorney for collection. I called them again, and they informed me that only a small portion of the balance had been covered. I explained that I did what I was told by two of their employees, and the lady just said she was sorry I was misinformed. So I had to pay three payments plus late fees right then! I feel that they need to make sure their employees know what their talking about. I was prepared to pay the balance off anyway, but because of the lack of correct information on their part, I had to pay late fees as well. Needless to say, I'll be paying this off ASAP!!Review from Brian A

Absolute trash company. They keep your money hostage. Tried to transfer money and it says it cannot be done, contact customer service. It can take all day just to speak with someone no matter if your number 1 in que. They claim it is a federal limit on how many times you can transfer money. Yet, other banks and credit unions have no limit? It would put such a big smile on my face to see member one go out of business.
