This case is in regards to Mr.and ************************* whom own a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado VIN#*****************. This customer had their last oil and filter change at our repair facility on October 4,2021, Repair Order No. *****. The vehicle mileage was ******* at that time. Mr.and *********** brought their vehicle in on January 11, 2023 and their vehicle had ******* miles. This was 14 months after they had their last oil change. ********************** now claims that due to Register using incompatible engine oil, their engine in their 15 year old vehicle now needs replacing. The customers complaint was a knocking noise in the engine and the low oil pressure light illuminating. After diagnostics it was determined that the noise the engine was making was a result of age and mileage of the vehicle. An engine replacement was warranted. The customer declined the repair and had the vehicle towed out. This customer also attempted to trade this vehicle in before towing elsewhere. There is no known evidence of engine damage resulting from switching from conventional oil to synthetic oil. However, it should be noted, Register Chevrolet has only used conventional oil on this vehicle and not synthetic oil as the customer stated. The last three consecutive maintenance receipts showing what oil and filter were used with each service. Engines are mechanical and unfortunately do break down and there are many reasons an engine could need replacing. Some of the most common reasons why engine replacement is required are (overheating issues, oil pump failure, age, mileage, wear and tear, stop and go driving) We understand the frustrations of Mr. and *********** however, due to the age and mileage of their vehicle Register was not negligent in any service work done on this vehicle.
