I took my 2017 VW Alltrack into a ****'s Autohaus in ********** for a Turbo Wastegate Actuator replacement. My car was fine and never leaked a drop of oil until I took it to ****'s for repair. The car had an APR engine module and ****'s is an authorized APR repair shop. The estimate was ~$1200 to R&R the part that APR mailed for replacement. I took the car to Alexs for an initial inspection. Many items were noted as needing serivce such as leaking valve cover, leaking left front axle, automatic transmission service needed, cabin air filter and spark plugs. The written estimate of repair was $3,407.56. I allowed ****'s to replace the Wastegate Actuator and spark plugs. In the process of doing this work, they claim they found a crack in the engine block causing it to leak oil through a bolt hole where a bracket bolted into the block. This was after the intial vehicle inspection and estimate when their was no oil leak. ****'s tried to fix the bracket bolt leak and failed. I looked under th car witht he Shop *********************** and I noticed oil coming down the block from higher up on the block. Then, they offered to repair the new crack in the block for an extra $600. (I believe the mechanic caused it!.) ****'s tried to epoxy the crack in the block. It did not leak when I left the shop. I drove the car home and in 4 days, the oil leak started again. The Bluebook was $21,000 +/- before I believe ****'s cracked the block. ****'s priced the labor to R&R the block at $12,000 without parts because the the front suspension needs to be disassembled and the engine lowered through the bottom. The Bluebook is now about $0 with the cracked block. Alexs did not return the APR control module to me either - A potentially valuable part for resale withheld from me. It may have been kept for their own resale. A **** dealer gave me an estimate of $13,000 with the caviate it has turbo problems. The **** dealer would not buy it anyway for trade.
