I reached out and received an estimate for my deck to have the old wood replaced and composite decking installed. I received the estimate and discussed with the company that they would need to get a permit and provide me with a copy as I need to submit that to my HOA architecture review team prior to the start of the work. Since submitting the down payment for the project I haven't heard anything back from the company except by text message and it is only when I call to follow up. There has been no communication on the status of permit until recently where a copy of the plat for the property was requested for the second time after my calls. I have been very patient with the company but I now feel like I may have been scammed although the company website makes it seem like a reputable company. I'm also concerned after reading reviews as there are a lot of customers experiencing the same problems with communication. I have called *************************** multiple times and he provided the estimate but has since been non responsive to my calls. I am a disabled veteran and am worried about the callousness and blatant disregard the company has displayed. I advised with both voice message and text message that they are not to return to my property and that I want a full refund of the funds my wife and I put forward for the project. We have decided to hold off on the project until we can find a reputable company that can attain the needed permits. Email conversation screenshots can be provided if needed.Business Response

New deck installation. Job was done July 20, 2023. Contacted the company to fix the gate which could not close several times. Also, at the time the deck was completed I told the contractor that the deck steps were not level. I feel as though I am falling forward when descending the steps. Several weeks later after multiple emails and calls to the Deck Man office the contractor came back to fix the gate which still does not close. When the contractor came to fix the gate I told him again about the steps not being level. He told me the steps were level and it was all in my head! Several weeks later, a different contractor came by, on or around December 20, 2023. He indicated that he would be back to fix the gate and also that he would work to get a resolution to the steps issue because he agreed that the steps were not level and should be repaired. We exchanged numbers and I sent text messages which were unanswered. Due to the winter I allowed the issue to go unresolved, but now I would like to get the gate fixed and MOST IMPORTANTLY get the deck steps repaired. Deck Man has not been responsive to me and after paying $8,849 I should have level steps and a gate that closes.Business Response

Complaint: 21294151
I am rejecting this response because: Deckman had a contractor come and assess the deck and was to return on 05.04.24. I assume due to bad weather the contractor did not show. I contacted Deckman on 05.04.24 and ask when the contractor would be returning to do the work. I have not received a response. Deckman continues to act in a totally irresponsible manner with communicating the steps they are taking to rectify this problem. It's been 10 months of me trying to get them to come and fix these deck steps. If someone falls while going up or down on these decks steps Deckman WILL BE held responsible. I have hired an attorney and they are only waiting for me to approve the letter to be sent to Deckman. This is the last time I will extend any ***** to Deckman. On or before 05.25.24, Deckman can either fix my deck steps or I will have my attorney issue them the letter and they will pay for someone else to complete the job, as well as pay my attorney fees.

On 6/21/23, a contract was executed to build a deck for my home. The contractor failed to pull permits and did not schedule an inspection of the deck that they built. The work crew falsely informed me that the permits were pulled an inspection request would be submitted. The contract states that the scope of work includes "architectural drawings, permit, and inspections." They have allegedly contracted with a permit expeditor but there has been no movement on the permit application in four months. The permit application number is ALTR-2023-***** and can be accessed here: *************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** am also incorrectly listed as the contractor for the project.Business Response

DeckMan was hired to construct an enclosed screened deck to my house. The company sub-contracted to work to a handyman company who incorrectly put on a roof and side flashing resulting in leaks into my screened deck through a panel they constructed. This area is leaking every time it rains. I've communicated many times my worry for wood, water damage and mold. The panel needs removed, wood may need replaced and treated for mold. 3 months of water and heat has probably caused an infestation of mold. Mold can cause health problems to my family. Another professional roofing company confirmed that DeckMan made the deck roof at an incorrect pitch. The pitch and flashing need repaired but I have been told I'm on the schedule for those 2 items but they haven't been completed ****** addition, I paid for brand new trex and there are paint spills from the handyman on multiple areas, paint drips on the screen and the gutter installed onto the screen deck was not put on correctly resulting in leaks to this area. I have communicated in writing numerous times and verified with in-person visits and calls.Timeline of my effort to work directly with the company :Early June: texts to ******* handyman company regarding leaks in finished screened in deck. No resolution to leaks which caused interior water damage to original infrastructure of home.June 22: first pictures of leaks sent to DeckMan June 39 : first in-person inspection, confirmed my complaints were valid and verbal word that repairs would be done.Early July: had a separate professional roofing company verify that the pitch of the deck roof constructed by DeckMan contractor was done incorrectly.July 22: Deckman sends a repairman who leaves to get supplies and never returned.July 24: 2nd in-person inspection again promised repairs would take place August 16: phone call regarding update on repairs.Sept. 6: phone call ( was told a call back would be made with repair update, no call back to me made)Business Response

Complaint: 20580567
I am rejecting this response because:
Deck Man only fixed the exterior roof issues. They have not fixed any of the specifc issues as described in my complaint. These include pulling out the inside panel where the leak was occurring to check for water damage and mold (asking for this for several months), the deck gutter was not properly installed and the handy man company subcontracted left paint marks all over the trex which I paid extra money for as well as paint runs on the screen. All of these issues were confirmed in person by DeckMan inspection. I was told to my face that these would be taken care of. I was told in late July, August and again in September. The recent roof repairs also caused huge nails exposed on the inside of the deck. There are at least 10 huge nails exposed. This could result in the need for tetanus shots if someone is poked or scratched by the exposed nails. I emailed about this and was told someone would be out this past Monday but again nobody comes to repair the issues.
Please read the original complaint and take care of every issue because that is what your project manager said your company would take care of.

I signed a contract with DeckMan on February 27, 2023. it is a deck project. They offered me to remove my old deck and build a new deck within 3 weeks.Their bid was to remove existing deck and construct a new deck in 3 weeks. the project address is at *** ******** ******, Herndon, VA *****. I paid them 50%, $7,303 upon signing the contract on February 27, 2023 and the remaining financed to be paid on a progress. I clearly communicated the urgency of the project due to worn out and being a rental property, I needed to complete the project sooner. I have been following up with them since then but they stopped answering my calls and emails. BBB rated this company A+ rating, but it feels weird to encounter this much low customer service. Since they are not responsive, I had to check town of Herndon this morning if they have applied for a permit. Unfortunately, they have not applied for permit as of today. Now I have to believe that DeckMan breached the agreement.let alone completing the project in three weeks, they have not even applied for permit. I am considering to hire a lawer for this matter. if BBB can resolve it, I am fine too. at least I need to get my money back if they cannot do the project.Business Response

Deckman didn't meet my expectations. It was them who canceled the contract after waiting long weeks doing nothing. They cancelled the contract and refunded my deposit. I will never trust them again. Since they refunded my money, i have no interest to further this communication though. Another company built my deck in short days already .
Thanks
*******
