On may 15 I went to medical city frisco er for an abscess. I was admitted and left in the ER till Monday morning when I was transferred to an outpatient room for same-day surgery. The abscess was surgically removed it was not closed it was left open and packed. I was released to go home Monday evening with the pain medication, a muscle relaxer and anti-nausea medicine. No antibiotics were prescribed to me. Then May 31 I went back to medical city ER once again with an inflamed abscess roughly in the same general area. This time the abscess was cut open drained bandage and I was released. I wasn't fact prescribed antibiotics for this visit, Per the doctor note from the ER I was released to return to work on Thursday, June 2. However I was not doing any better, as a matter of fact I was actually worse. So I went to my primary doctor on June 2 who immediately sent me to the ER. This time I went to Baylor Grapevine where I was admitted and had to remain hospitalized and a step down intensive care unit for five days. When the entire situation was described in Baylor they asked for medical records from medical city frisco. Once the medical records were received it was confirmed that no biopsy was performed on the abscess surgically removed nor was any culture made from the drainage of the abscess that was cut into. These circumstances coupled with the fact of no antibiotics prescribed until late into this situation all contributed to me being hospitalized at Baylor Grapevine. Also the standard of care was not met on either visit to Medical City Frisco. The standard of care for any type of access that require surgical removal is to prescribe oral antibiotics if the patient is discharged. Being that I had already been a patient and was there for a second time in two weeks the standard of care should have been to culture the drainage from the second abscess the May 31 incident but that was not performed. I have reached out and made a formal complaint with medical city Frisc

I was billed $146,300 for a 30 minute, minimally invasive, outpatient (no stay!) procedure, microdiscectomy. Fortunately, I have insurance and they valued it at $6,500 (not including anesthesiologist, surgeon, etc) and I did not have to pay the $146,300 or 10% co-insurance on that amount. I've had this procedure done twice before and the average billing prior to insurance was $12,000. Beware if you have a high deductible or high co-insurance! I've been unsuccessful in reaching a human through calling (on hold forever, promised return calls, etc.) and writing a letter of complaint directly to the hospital for a further review of what are clearly egregious errors in lump sum charges and overbilling of basic charges like blood work. I know that "amount billed" would always be more than the "insurance allowed rate" but a 99% difference between the 2? The billing is out of Medical City ***** even though the procedure was at Medical City Frisco. This "billing amount" does impact me negatively trying to get international insurance. Prior/during surgery - I never got return calls from Medical City Frisco prior to surgery when I attempted to get an estimate of charges. I feel I was given too much anesthesia, my legs were completely numb for 6 hours after surgery (usually I'm out after an hour or 2), no food provided while waiting after not having eaten for 18 hours. They ordered food but it never arrived from the hospital concession.
