About two years ago I hired Kingham Roofing to replace the roof on my property at *****************************. I met with the owner at the property and he gave a price for replacing the roof, $*****. I specifically asked Him what the warranty period was and he stated it was warranted for five years. I pointed out an area adjacent to the chimney where the plywood decking had rotted through and he assured me it would be repaired. In May of this year I noticed water damage to the ceiling and I went into the attic to investigate. I found that his crew DID NOT replace the rotted wood. They only put new shingles over it. They didn't even put roofing paper down prior to nailing the new shingles over the damaged area. I phoned the owner and, without identifying myself, asked what his standard warranty is. He stated that it "used to be five years" but he had recently lowered it to two years. At that time I identified myself and described the problem. I informed him that even if the warranty was only two years the roof was put on within that time frame. He said he would get back to me. He did not. On April 29 I sent him a text which included pictures of the rotted plywood. He returned the text stating that he had checked his records and that the roof was not under warranty. My next text asked What is the warranty? He responded stating, "It was one year." Although that statement was not true, I asked him to come out and give me a price on fixing it. I didn't hear anything back from him. Shortly thereafter I called and left him a message asking him to contact me. I have heard nothing from him since then. Because he refused to honor his warranty I had to hire another roofer to correct the damage. It cost me $****. Kingham Roofing could have repaired it for much less. I would like him to do the right thing and reimburse my expenses. Otherwise I will be forced to take the matter to court. I will be seeking punitive damages of three times my expenses.
