We hired Comfort Keepers to stay with our elderly (Blind) parent , honestly the only instructions were to make sure nothing is on the floors to include the pets to prevent her from tripping on something… she is 89 and blind but had the house memorized she’s lived there 50 years. Several time I caught the worker in the bedroom dusting while my blind mother was wandering around in the kitchen alone. I actually called the house and let the worker know I could see her and told her do not clean stay with my mother. I called the company and explained that I didn’t think she was a good fit. The owner said she would speak to her and I said I’d give her one more week to get on board with the process. I was getting ready for my chemotherapy appointment when I heard my mom yell oh my arm! We all ran out to see the worker said “ I was right next to her when she fell!” We pulled up the nanny cam footage which told a completely different story. The worker was sitting in the living room playing on her phone. The 13 seconds of video showed that she looks up when my mom was coming out of the bathroom down the hallway, the worker never gets up…then the video showed my blind mother falling behind the couch the worker was sitting on and crashing to the tile floor. My mom’s arm was broken in four places with the skin torn off her wrist with the broken bones exposed. As well as a four inch tear to the right leg across the knee. We rushed mom to ER and she was put into surgery to address the open wounds on the wrist and knee. The orthopedic doctor couldn’t address the fractured elbow and broken humerus. We have mom in a rehabilitation facility trying to recover from the first two surgeries. Then they will have to take her back into surgery to fix the broken bones. The company continued to send out the final invoices for hours worked, and I’ve paid them promptly. I sent a text message to the supervisor asking when we should expect our $75.00 deposit back… crickets ??
