I rented a Barrett Stump Grinder for 24hrs from Cross Country Rental on Saturday, September 2, 2023 to return on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 for $359.70. On Saturday, while using the Stump Grinder, I noticed a loose grilling tooth on the equipment. I promptly called Cross Country, but no answer. On Sunday, I called Cross Country to seek guidance on whether it was safe to continue using the equipment. No answer again. So, continued to monitor the equipment operation as I slowly and cautiously used it in accordance with instructions manual. I noticed the Stump Grinder begin to shake so I immediately stopped using the equipment. When performing an inspection of the equipment, I observed one grinder tooth had come off. I did not use the equipment again. On Tuesday, September 5, 2023, I returned the Stump Grinder and explained what happened. Brandon, Owner, said I should have not used the equipment with the loose tooth, He rudely said anyone with common sense would have known not to use the Grinder. I politely explained what happened and showed him pictures. Then, Brandon said okay the loose toothe was the problem. You can get the stump grinder after we repair it later this week. Sign this close out contract. So, I did. After I left the business and drove to Lowe’s, I review the close out contract in which Brandon had charged $612.26. I called back and Brandon said I was charged for 8 hrs use plus additional 4hrs. I once again explained that I rented the stump grinder for 24hrs according to the contract.
