    Business Response

    Date: 01/31/2025

We prepared and filed the tax returns for the client for tax year 2022.  On October 7, 2024 she received a notice from the IRS stating that she owed money for unreported income on her 2022 return.  It is not uncommon for taxpayers to receive such notices.  The notice stated that there was unreported interest income and unreported gain from a home sale.  ******** did not provide us with Forms 1099-S for a home sale or Form ******** for the interest income.

******** sent the notice to us on October 11, 2024.  We promptly responded to her that same day; advising her and providing the documentation she would need to send to the IRS to respond to clear up the home sale gain.  We could not advise her on the interest income as we were never provided with a ********.  We also could not directly deal with the IRS on these issues as we did not have ***** ** ******** to do so.

On January 15, 2025 ******** emailed us stating that the items had been resolved based on how we advised her to respond to the IRS but also demanded a refund for the preparation fee.  We do not issue refunds to clients solely because they are unhappy that they received a notice and had to respond to the IRS.  This is a common occurrence in the business of income taxes.  In fact, we typically bill for time advising clients on how to respond to IRS notices.  Out of courtesy to ********, we did not bill for the time advising her and helping her gather the documentation to respond to the IRS.

I have attached the email correspondence with ******** on this matter.

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, you must give us a reason why you are rejecting the response. If no reason is received your complaint will be closed Administratively Resolved]

     Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

*** filed my taxes incorrectly by missing a key document needed by the IRS that was required while he, as the tax professional, knew would avoid the taxes being filed incorrectly and is not offering to refund my payment to him.
    Regards,
