Within 3 1/2 months two (2) cracks developed in concrete pads and porch pad up near the house. The first 6' in length. Contractor was called, came out to property. Said he could grind out the crack, apply some silicon to seal it. A second crack appeared a couple of days later, this crack came clear across an 8' pad into a 2nd 8' pad and after a few more days continued across the porch pad about 30' in length. Contractor came back out, now said "we have a water problem", and it would be OUR cost to dig up and replace the concrete. The contractor made a statement saying, "this has been one of our coldest *******". The contractor said before the contract was signed, he did not like the length of the pads more than 10', the first pad coming off the house is 12" and the area from left side of driveway, across the porch is 30' long. The contractor was also concerned about drainage pipe at bottom of driveway being low grade, we asked if the pipe should be dug up, he didn't think so. The same pipe was exposed while he was framing the driveway. Why no concern up near the house where the old concrete had a similar crack and were new concrete is now cracked. I uncovered 2 areas where the pipe was buried as agreed by the ******************** called him 3 times to come out and look at the area, he not answering or returning my calls. I had some other concrete people come out; they advised me that not enough expansion joints were used especially at two spots against the house, nothing down the middle of pads or between street and driveway. Also, the porch could have been poured separately. Contractor asked us not to put cars on driveway for 2 weeks, which we did. However, he did have to brace the roof over the porch, but within 2 days he put the weight of the roof back on the new concrete. Two gouges were made by equipment at the bottom of drive on new asphalt apron as they started at the street not at top of driveway when removing old driveway.
