My vehicle was brought to cottman transmission in ******, ************ for an engine replacement on March 3, 2025. They (Cottman Transmission) contacted my extended warranty company, Endurance, to complete the work and receive payment. They (Cottman Transmission) lied to Endurance, stating the work was complete so they can recieve payment. It is now April 15, 2025, and after weeks of contacting them (Cottman Transmission) and being told they can't give me an e.t.a. for completion, I still do not have my vehicle, they will not answer any questions, and the person in charge, *****, will not answer my phone calls. I've threatened to get the police involved, and they (Cottman Transmission) don't seem to care.Initial Complaint

I took my ************* GLA 250 2015 to Cottman. They drove it and told me that it was my transfer case that was messedup on the car. They had it for four days charge me $1000. It wasnt a transfer case the car still doing the same issue then they me it was my turbo I went and bought a turbo got the turbo over replaced and its not the turbo. Im filing a complaint to get my moneyback for the transfer case that they charge me and it wasnt the transfer case when they told me that was what was wrong with my vehicle.Business Response

4/5/23 My 2003 ***** ***** was towed by Cottman to Cottman Transmission, 4 /10/23 I called them because I found a repair shop that was a little cheaper, but Cottman told me that I had to pay them around 900.00 dollars for the tow and because they already dropped the transmission, so I paid them 500.00 down on a bill of 2,300. I also told them it would take a couple weeks for me to pay the balance. 4/24 I called and told *** that I would like to pick up my car on the 26th but he said it wouldn't be ready until the 27th, ( it was not ready) on 29th they put it back together but told me it was making a loud noise so I couldn't pick it up. I called May 2 ,3 still not ready, May 5 picked up car ,had to return May 9th because they 4got to hook up the heater. May 14th transmission went out again towed back to Cottman on May 15th, explained to *** that I needed a vehicle so that I could get back and forth to work, but he told me that there was nothing he could do . I called May 16, 17th ,He told me the car would be ready by the 19th.(was not ready) *** told me someone was coming to pick up my transmission and taking home to work on it ,that it should be ready by the 22nd .May 23rd I picked up car around 1:30pm ,on my way to work around 5:40pm the transmission went out again the same day,I called left a message on the machine, and called again the next morning asking to speak to the owner *** gave me the owner's first name and told me that he would give **** my number to call me, car got towed back to Cottman May 24 th .called 26th 27th car won't be ready until the 30th witch is today.Business Response

IN REGARD TO ****************** COMPLAINT. WHEN HE ORIGINALLY CONTACTED US ABOUT HIS TRANSMISSION, I QUOTED HIM A PRICE OF $3,680.00. HE INDICATED HE COULD NOT AFFORD THAT AMOUNT, AND WOULD LOOK AROUND AT OTHER OPTIONS. HAVING RECENTLY BEGUN MY EMPLOYEMENT HERE AT COTTMAN, I WAS EAGER TO BUILD RELATIONSHIPS WITH LOCAL CUSTOMERS, BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT CREATES A GOOD REFFERAL BASE. SO, I SPOKE WITH THE OWNER, ** **** *******, AND ASKED IF WE COULD LOWER OUR PRICE TO THE $2,300.00 THAT ** ***** HAD AVAILABLE. **** AGREED, AND I CALLED ** *****. ** ***** THEN INDICATED THAT IT WOULD TAKE HIM A FEW WEEKS TO RAISE THE MONEY, AND HE WOULD CALL US AT THE APPROPRIATE TIME. DURING THAT TIME, WE STARTED TO INSPECT AND MAKE REPAIR ON HIS VEHICLE. DURING THIS PROCESS, WE FOUND THAT ** ***** ALSO HAD A BROKEN TRANSFER CASE. (WHEN I CALLED TO TELL HIM THIS, HE INDICATED THIS WAS IMPOSSIBLE BECAUSE HE JUST HAD THAT REPAIR DONE IN NOVEMBER 2022! - HE FELT AS IF WE WERE JUST TRYING TO RAISE THE PRICE, WHICH WAS INCORRECT BECAUSE I WAS NOT GOING TO INCREASE THE PRICE AT ALL HAVING KNOWN ALREADY THAT ** ***** WAS STRETCHED THIN FINANCIALLY)
AS A BUSINESS, ITS MY JOB TO ENSURE THAT WHEN WE AGREE UPON A PRICE FOR A REPAIR, THAT THE REPAIR IS DONE CORRECTLY, AT THE AGREED UPON PRICE, AND ALSO DONE IN A TIMELY MANNER. IN THE WORLD OF TRANSMISSION REPAIRS, SOMETIMES SITUATIONS ARRISE THAT WERE UNEXPECTED. THIS WAS THE CASE WITH ** *****. WHEN WE ORIGINALLY DELIVERED THE VEHICLE TO ** *****, WITHIN A FEW HOURS THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK IN. AFTER WE INSPECTED IT, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO COME OUT AGAIN. THIS ALSO HAPPENED FOR A SECOND TIME AFTER DELIVERY. (WHICH WAS EXTREMELY UNEXPECTED, WE DO HUNDREDS OF TRANSMISSION INSTALLATIONS EVERY YEAR WITH NO PROBLEM!)
AFTER THE SECOND TRANS FAILURE, THE OWNER DECIDED TO INSTALL A COMPLETELY NEW TRANSMISSION, BEING FULLY AWARE THAT THIS WAS A BIG INCONVIENCE FOR ** *****. **** PERSONALLY LET US INSTALL A HIGH PERFERMANCE TRANSMISSION WITH OVER $2,000. IN PARTS INSIDE ALONE, JUST TO TRY AND GET THIS VEHICLE BACK TO ** ***** AS SOON AS POSSBILE. WHILE I UNDERSTAND ** *****S FRUSTRATION, IN HIS COMPLAINT, HE FAILED TO MENTION THAT I PERSONALLY DROVE TO HIS HOUSE AT LEAST 5 TIMES A WEEK TO GIVE HIM CASH (TOTALING $680.00) TO COVER THE COST OF AN **** SO HE COULD MAKE IT TO WORK. HE ALSO DID NOT MENTION THAT WE FIXED HIS A/C MODULE ON HIS DASH AT NO COST.
THE FACT IS, I UNDERSTAND WHY ** ***** WAS UPSET, AND ALTHOUGH I KNEW THAT THE ORIGINAL PRICE, I GAVE HIM WAS AN AMAZING DEAL, IT MEANT NOTHING TO HIM IF THE TRANSMISSION DIDNT WORK! SO, FROM THE VERY BEGINING I HAVE TRIED TO NOT ONLY COMPENSATE ** *****, BUT TO ALSO KEEP HIM INFORMED OF EVERY STEP OF THE PROCESS AS WE WENT ALONG. WHEN I DELIVER THE VEHICLE TO ** ***** A FEW DAYS AGO, WITH HIS NEW HIGH PERFORMACE TRANSMISSION. HE INDICATED THAT HE UNDERSTOOD THIS WAS UNEXPECTED AND THANKED ME FOR GOING OUT OF MY WAY TO MAKE SURE HE WAS ABLE TO GET TO WORK. (JUST A SIDE NOTE-- THE REASON WHY WE HAD SO MUCH DIFFICULTY WITH THIS JOB WAS BECAUSE AFTER EVERYTHING WAS DONE, WE PUT HIS ORIGINAL UNIT UNDER AN EXTENSIVE EVALUATION, AND FOUND THAT IT HAD TWO HAIRLINE FRACTURES IN THE MAIN CASE! THIS SORT OF DAMAGE IS RARE, AND VERY DIFFICULT TO SPOT!)

I was told by ******* transmission in NY to take my car to cottman's transmission in Emmaus for them to look at my transmission which should have been covered under warranty..... I had my transmission rebuilt by ******* in Sept / oct of 22... In Jan 23 my car started to not shift into high gear so ******* said to take to cottman's for them to look at it.... About 2 weeks after I dropped my car off at cottman's I got a call from ******* saying that the drive solenoid needed to be replaced but the recommended that all 3 solenoids be replaced and that this repair would not be covered under there warranty since it's the electrical part of the transmission.... My car has been at cottman's since the middle of Jan I had called multiple times to try and find out what was going on with my car, asking for an estimate for the solenoids I was always told they need to call me back and I would never get a call back from anyone... I had another person call also for me and he had left a message and never received a call back either... I finally went to the shop on Friday Feb 24 to pick my car up to take to someone else to repair but when I got their **** had told me my part was on back order and was due to arrive at the shop that day and he could have my car fixed by 4pm, I asked how much it would cost cause no one even called with an estimate. **** said it would only cost a couple hundred dollars cause I only have to pay for the part... They called me at 4 said that my car was done and is running good... I paid $742 for the parts.... When I picked up my car it still was not shifting into high gear the parts I was told I needed did not fix the problem... Now I'm being told it's the converter then on Tuesday another guy said they need to talk to ******* to see if they should pull the transmission to see what's going on.... I've been without my car for 6 weeks , paying for parts I don't need a getting the run around way to long... I picked my car up last night still not fixed. Please refund my $742 that I put into parts that I didn't need.Business Response

This was done @ another Transmission shop, After talking with *****`s Repair Shop they said this problem was on the customer , car had a solonoid code , we replaced the parts did not fix vehicle , ****** was going to send part`s the car still needed for the transmision, she picked car up & said she bought a new car. services were rendered , Tell us why here...Initial Complaint

I had the transmission rebuilt and a new clutch installed on my ****** WRX. cottman offered an 12 month ****** mile warranty. After four months and ***** miles the clutch failed. Cottman said it was a part failure and was not covered under warranty and would repair for $500. Paid and had clutch replaced. Five months after this repair and **** miles total from initial repair clutch failed again. Cottman again said not under warranty. I asked for an upgraded clutch. Specifically an ***** clutch. Cottman said they would order. Took ten weeks to arrive and was given multiple excuses why parts did not arrive. They did not put in an ***** clutch and charged $1000. Was told if this failed they would replace clutch at parts only cost. I feel this all should have been covered under warranty.Business Response

I had to pay extra money because they refused to cover under their warranty. They did not honor warranty. Paid $1500 for something that should have been covered.

Warranty`s on Clutch`s are pro rated and also on abuse , Told Customer if bought another clutch we would install FREE of charge. Labor never covered under clutch jobs, we told the customer which clutch to purchase
