I hired S & T Coombe to install a Class A chimney on my brand-new home after speaking with ******. I trusted them as professionalsand I couldnt be more disappointed. I paid $6,000 total, $1,200 of which was labor. The install was sloppy, damaging, and clearly not up to code.Instead of following manufacturer guidelines, which require mounting brackets directly to the structure with stand-off hardware and proper flashing, they screwed pressure-treated wood strips through my vinyl siding and mounted the brackets to those. This shortcut crushed the Dutchlap siding, deforming it and compromising its expansion capabilitycreating long-term risk for cracking, leaks, mold, and structural damage. The pressure-treated wood is now exposed to the elements and will degrade over time.Every building expert I consulted confirmed this method was incorrect. When I raised concerns, ****** insisted it was standard practice. Their proposed fix? Cut slits in the siding, slide the same wood behind it, reattach brackets, caulk the cuts, and require me to sign a waiver releasing them from any future water damage. It was a cosmetic patch, not a real solution. This was done to a brand-new home. *** had to dispute the labor charge and bring in my builder to **** it properlyat my own expense. If youre considering S & T Coombe, run the other way. They cut corners, use unqualified subcontractors, and **** stand behind their work. Worsethis isnt just siding or trim. Its a chimney system. Fire, smoke, and carbon monoxide depend on it being done right. Their casual approach to such serious work is dangerous. I wouldnt let them near my house again if they offered to work for free.
