2 starsThe rental experience itself was decent. No issues. It was the $250 bill that got added for a Vehicle Cleaning Cost. This cost is defined as including but isnt limited to animal hair, bio hazard, excessive garbage, excessive exterior dirt, excessive interior dirt sand, paint, smoke smell, spills stains liquids, etc). We were in ********** and there was sand in the vehicle but not to the tune of $250. With 10 minutes and $2 for a vacuum at a car wash, I could have removed all of the sand in no time. Whoever was hired to clean it was likely finished in well under 15 minutes.We will not be renting from Avis in the future.Review fromJohn O

No stars given this rental place is terrible and they lie ! My account was over charged for a rental I been turned in . I was hospitalized and gave documentation then they gave me a2 day voucher come to find out I couldnt even use because they put me in a do not rent list after they had already overcharged my account ! As I stood at counter the lady told me to call customer service , once I called they told me to email a email address donotrent@avisbudget email address ! Just to find out that ************************ at rental location Avis put me on the list per the response from the email!!!. Now when I called after receiving email Im getting the run around to email this person or call this person at this point yall full of s*** !!! Of If I did something to be added on there then why would you issue me a 2 day voucher toward a rental and give em $159 refund from overcharging my account ???? But still have no valid resin as to why Im even placed in there ! I dont owe any money nor did I have anything that resulted to be added on the list . But to act like yall dont know whats going on is a issue . I wont ever rent from there again been a preferred member since 2016 !!!!! And never had a issue so now Im never renting from any Avis again this how your company treats loyal customers??? I dont want no part!! I rented this car due yo my transmission going out so I still needed to get to work. From no one on boycott these places seem to be very realistic since they do whatever to customers who come with they hard earned money!!! Over charging accounts !making deals not kept ! **************** wont never know anything and transfer calls that take hrs to get through to . Im over it AVIS IS BY FAR THE SHITTIEST CAR RENTAL PLACE ! Boycott is necessary at this pointAVIS

If I could give zero stars, I would. We rented a car last week from Avis at ********************. We waited for over an hour and a half to get the car and once we returned the vehicle we were told that we were charged for insurance that we specifically declined. Now, Avis is telling us they can only refund half the money. This is the worst experience and customer service we have received from a ********************** car company. We are requesting a full refund for a service that we did not ask for. No one should rent from Avis, especially not from the ********************.AVIS

I had a confirmed and prepaid reservation with Avis (Reservation #********US4) on April 17, 2025, at *************. ******************************. Upon arrival, I was denied service and told that I was on Aviss Do Not Rent (***) list, without any prior notice or justification. I was traveling for urgent medical care at the *********** in *********, **, and this unexpected denial left me stranded late at night, without transportation, in a high-stress and vulnerable situation.I incurred additional transportation and lodging costs due to this incident and suffered unnecessary emotional distress. I have no history that justifies being on the *** list, and I have not received an explanation or resolution from Avis despite contacting customer service.I am requesting the ************************* of out-of-pocket expenses related to this incident.2.Formal removal from the *** list.3.A written apology acknowledging the error.If this matter is not resolved promptly, I am prepared to pursue legal action and escalate the complaint through additional consumer protection channels.AVIS

I would give a minus 10 if I could. The worst experience ever. Do not rent from AVIS!! I had an **** rental, someone toned the car. Avis would not pick up their car. They charged me another week rental. After getting them to recover the car almost a week later, they refunded my money. A week later they charged me again. This is after I blocked them on my checking account.According to my bank AVIS changed the way their name appeared making them look like another company and charged me another weeks rental. This is one week after closing the account and confirming they had the car back.After more than one phone call to their customer service they informed me that they charged me the whole week because they got their car back a day after the account was closed.This was their fault, their roadside service never picked up the car. They could have had it a week earlier but never picked it up. They finally decided to keep $154.00 and return $202 to my account at their convenience.I have never had such a negative experience with a company. As for rental companies stay with ***** or Enterprise! AVIS SUCKS!!AVIS

Booked online on 7th March to pick a Jeep Grand Wagoneer or similar vehicle to be picked at *********** on 8th March at 10 am (paid $1,482.60 for 9days Base rate of $121.52). Upon arrival i was offered a Armada (which we refused, my friend who was traveling with me owns a Infinity QX80, we were looking for something with a bigger boot space). We were asked to wait while they check for options and after almost ***** mins of waiting (we were about to leave) we were asked to look at a Subarban (with "some damages", while inspecting we found a small crack on windscreen), we were asked if this would be okay and we agreed, then we were offered a price of $216 which seemed quite high, which the gentleman at the counter then reduced to $100/day (a few add on's and expected total was $1,927.67), me and my friend (also a co-driver on the rental) went on to confirm twice the total rental would cost us $1,927.67 to which i was confirmed, while signing the agreement i did raise again the charges appeared higher to which the gentleman at the counter said he will need to seek approval for the discount and we would be only charged for $1,927.67, which we signed for. Upon returning the vehicle i was further charged $1,927.67 on top of the previous charge of $1482.6 making my total to $3,410.27 (base rate of $221.52 "higher than their standard rate" (went online today 16th April and i can get a premium SUV for $ ******/day). Made several calls between March 20 and April 15 to customer service and after few initial calls they basically said that since i have singed on the agreement there is no further discussion or review from their end. We would have used my friends car had we clearly been told the total charges would be $3,410.27. Will never recommend AVIS after this incident. Clearly no one in AVIS customer Care is trying to listen or understand how can the actual charge be higher than their standard rate (compared to online booking) and why would a customer agree on almost doubleAVIS

Avis rental have been very rude and lacked sympathy regarding customer service experience. Twice I have used this service and were not friendly with me at all. One female had hung up on me. I own a vehicle with ****** and this was a service offered through my warranty. Had I any other care rental choice I would have taken it.AVIS

We rented a vehicle for five days to take a quick holiday around the southwest. Nightmarish line at the airport kiosk aside, it has been utter chaos. The first car we were assigned we never received because "A light turned on after they washed it." The second car we received was a 2025 Jeep Compass. It had 6000 miles on it when we received it. On the morning of the third day of our trip, the engine light came on and we received a notification to service the transmission. Avis customer service arranged for a replacement car but we had to try and drive almost 4 hours out of our way to get it, as that was the closest location. We made it, thankfully, but the first replacement car they gave us couldn't connect to any navigation due to not having an SD card and was not well cleaned as we found loose pills in the footwell of the back seat. The SECOND replacement car they gave us didn't make it 24 hours before it had an engine malfunction to the point of being undriveable. We now have to get yet another replacement car.These cars came from two different airports in two different states. Avis is clearly not doing maintenance on their vehicles. I am fully expecting the next vehicle they give us as a replacement to malfunction as well.I will not rent from Avis again.AVIS

I rented a car from the *********** for a weekend fishing trip in rural ***** over 2 hours away. It got a flat tire in the fishing area where cell service is spotty and **** rides are non- existent. The tire was changed through emergency roadside service, but when I asked about how to get back to the airport on the spare, my options were to have the tire fixed locally, on my dime even though I added the insurance, or get a tow and an **** (not available) to the nearest Avis location over 2 hours away driving 45 mph. So I didn't forfeit my fishing trip, I chose to drive slowly to the closest Avis causing me to move my flight and add another day to my trip because of the added drive time. But that location did not have any vehicles to swap out so I had to drive all the way back to DFW at 45mph which is not recommended for safety reasons. When I got to the counter to explain the poor service and options, they told me that since I paid upfront online, there was nothing they could do for me and it would be sent for review and I'd hear back in a week. I requested they remove one day of the rental and my insurance but that was denied and instead sent a bill for roadside service. **************** said there was no manager to escalate to and I have no recourse to discuss this with anyone else. At every turn this service was awful, and it's implied during the rental that things are covered that actually are not. This company is the worst and I do not recommend renting from them. If you do read every word of the fine print, use your own insurance and hopefully do not get a flat tire.AVIS

Based upon the information you provided and the findings of our internal investigation, we show that customer service refunded $100 **** on file on 4/15/25. Please allow up to 10 business days for this refund to reflect.
Unfortunately we do not show that you had insurance through Avis on your rental nor did you have Roadside SafetyNet so we cannot remove the charge for roadside coming out. As you used your personal insurance for this rental, you can file a claim with them for reimbursement.
