I would give 0 stars if I could. We have a fixed rate mortgage with Gateway and noticed our monthly payments started going up by $700+/mo. It turns out they had incorrectly purchased home owners insurance on our behalf (which we never authorized them to do as we already have homeowners insurance for the home). Once we finally got them to correct it and cancel the policy, they told us we would need to continue to pay the extra $700+/mo for another month or they would send us to creditors. We are completely horrified by how they have made their mistake our financial burden to pay. Never ever ever trust these guys with your money.

Would NOT recommend getting a mortgage with Gateway. AVOID at all costs, unless you like trying fix an error that Gateway made at the customer's expense. Bought a condo unit in August 2021, property taxes were paid for during closing. County mistakenly sent Gateway a tax statement that belongs to the builder and taxes were for the entire building. I noticed my mortgage payment TRIPLED! I called Gateway to inquire about this, and come to find out that Gateway paid the tax statement that was mistakenly sent! Upon personal review of the statement, the account # and account holder does NOT match mine at all. So Gateway paid taxes to the incorrect account. Gateway insists that I (the customer) needs to contact County to rectify the problem. Made contact with County, they stated that it has to be the payor (Gateway) to make the request for refund. Gateway still insists that I make all the phone calls to County and try to fix the problem. Fast forward 2 years layer, December 2023, and problem has not yet been solved. I'm still down +$7K because Gateway won't give me a refund on a mistake that they made. I am still trying to be the messenger between Gateway and County to get the refund. Gateway will not give me the refund on a mistake they made until they get their money back from County. It's your mistake and not mine, I shouldn't be the one who is at a loss here. Do NOT do business with Gateway. AVOID AT ALL COST.

My mortgage was sold to this company in September. The home was closed in August. My escrow account went negative and my mortgage payment went up. They kept telling me that the other mortgage company had done something with the account. Turns out they overpaid my taxes by $5000 because they are calculating taxes for the ENTIRE year. I went to the tax office and got the correct amount, which is $3400, not $8300. They are refusing to fix this at the moment and the customer service is about half brain dead. I've only spoken to one person who has been of any assistance. This has never happened to me before. I have a homestead exemption plus a property tax exemption. I turned in everything that was requested by this company, even an updated property tax payment amount for 2023 from the county tax office. Every time I talk to someone, they circle back. " yes sir, we ran an escrow analysis in NOV and we had to pay your taxes... the extra $290 per month is because you escrow is negative..." This is ridiculous...... Should have never happened in the first place.

We're one week from closing, can't get the closing cost amount, confirmation on funding for the contract we signed, or a response to emails, texts or phone calls. Already costing me $100 a day for extending closing date.

I made arrangements with the county I live in to pay my back property taxes. Gateway made a statement that the company send them a bill then demanded them to pay. I’ll call the county which I live there and they said it was not true. I talk to Gateway each time someone give me a different answer I’m a retiree and I’m trying to understand if y’all take an additional $600 from me and plus another two something there should be an overage in the account each time I call it’s a different answer.

I spoke with Gateway Mortgage's Customer Service over the phone today and was exceptionally disappointed to be told that their process for PMI removal will only take into account (a) the percentage paydown on the original loan amount or (b) a list of improvements done to the property totaling the difference between the principle balance and 80% of the original value. My simple request was to pay for an appraisal that would establish the current value of our home and have that used to establish the amount owed is less than the 80% threshold of the home's current value. I was told this was not possible. I must either pay approx. $50K or prove I'd spent that amount in home improvements to the physical property. (This wreaks of unfairness and greed.) If this is indeed the case, then their process is an exceptional disappointment since recent comps on our street sold for $200-300K more than we currently owe. Even a conservative appraisal based on these comps would show our principal owed falling between the 60-70% threshold. This level of home appreciation must be taken into consideration through a fair and current appraisal, allowing the possibility of PMI removal, in order to consider their service adequate.

Gateway does not make public comments concerning customers transactional and relationship activity.  However, please note that PMI cancellation requirements are determined by the Investor/Loan Type and Federal Regulatory Guidelines which Gateway must follow.  Thank you.

I have been a loyal outstanding paying mortgage holder for Gateway over 5 years. I recently had an issue with my bank returning Decembers payment. I never received a call or letter telling my I was passed my grace period or my payment was late. My mom was very ill on ventilator at the time so I didn't get to check to see what cleared on my bank I just assumed it went through or else they would have to call. The next month I went online on the 2nd and saw the last month was never paid for returned funds. I paid both months immediately. And since it was one day past 30 days late they hit my credit report dropping me 64 points. So devastating because I have worked years on fixing my credit to excellent standings. I lost sleep and cried for a week. Begged supervisor to delete the reporting to the bureau for being a good customer and not being notified they refused. I will never recommend them or use them for any future investments.
