We hired Tier One to edge and mulch. Several weeks beforehand, we did a property walk-around. We talked extensively about the invisible dog fence line and that we'd mark it because it is shallow, easily pierced with a spade, and that we've cut through it ourselves in the past. Tier One did not indicate that they use an edger machine that pierces deeply, and thus anything that is near or crosses garden edges such as sprinkler heads and sprinkler lines could be damaged during their work. This was also not indicated on the bid acceptance form. After they completed the work, we found three huge issues - the dog fence was cut in multiple places when they unexpectedly expanded a bed (the line ran along the grass outside the bed); 2 sprinkler heads and 4 sprinkler lines were cut; and the sump drainage pipe was cut. I proposed we split the cost of the repairs - we would cover the dog fence and sprinkler system fixes and Tier One would cover the sump pipe issue ($250). Tier One said to send over the sump pipe repair invoice. We did. We have respectfully sent reminders/followups several times over the last few weeks since sending the invoice. Tier One's response is that they'll only pay if their insurance will cover it and that their insurance won't cover it (which leads to the conclusion they won't pay).
