    Mr. ********************** approached me at my home about any home construction needs we might have at the end of March 2025. We agreed he would provide a quote to replace and existing split rail fence in my yard. He provided a written quote on 3/26/2025 with a materials list and scope of work (3-5 days), for a total of $4580.We received a quote from a competing company for $4500, but decided to move forward with Mr. **********************. We told him to move forward with the project on 3/27/2025. We did not sign the ********. ********************** picked up a check for the first half of payment ($2290) on 4/1/2025. Materials were delivered 4/7/********** begin 4/8/2025 and completed 4/10/2025- totaling two and a half days of labor.This past Monday, 4/12/2025, Mr. ********************** told us the project would be an additional $1660. No communication about changes occured, and there was no work done outside of the original quote, in terms of scope or material. Mr. ********************** claimed that the cost of the upfront materials had increased that much in the few days between when he gave us the quote and when he purchased the material. This was in no way communicated to us. I priced the material list at both ****** and Menards and the materials were still under the original quote. We do not feel we owe this additional money, and feel like the contractor is trying to scam us. We have remitted the remainder of the originally agreed upon amount, but are still in conflict with this contractor over the $1660.I attached photos of the quote provided, the hand written notes are mine and are retail costs of the materials listed.
