We were misled by a door-to-door salesperson representing Bug Shark pest control. The salesperson assured us that the service could be canceled at any time, which was a key reason we agreed to sign up. However, we were not given an opportunity to properly review the contract. It was presented on an iPad, and the representative scrolled through the terms quickly without allowing us to read them or providing a copy.

Now that we are trying to cancel, we’re being told that we must pay twice the monthly cost as a cancellation fee, or the company will report us to the credit bureaus. We were never informed of this policy, and we still have not been provided a copy of the contract we supposedly signed.

To make matters worse, the service itself was ineffective. We are very disappointed by the lack of transparency, high-pressure sales tactics, and poor customer service. This feels unethical and deceptive. We are requesting that the company release us from this contract without penalty and cease all threats to our credit.

      Business Response

      Date: 08/07/2025

We’re sorry to hear about the concerns expressed and appreciate the opportunity to respond.
The service agreement was emailed to the customer on the same day the account was created and was opened for review. The agreement outlines all terms and conditions, including cancellation policies. For reference, a copy of the agreement has been attached to this response.
We understand how important clear communication is and strive to ensure that all customers are fully informed during the sign-up process. Additionally, we offer free re-services and are always willing to return if pest activity continues.
We remain available to work with the customer to find a resolution and ensure expectations are met.

I was looking for a company to help eliminate an area of my house from a huge amount of small ants. The company also looked promising to help eliminate the presence of carpenter bees. It appears this treatment has done its job. Can NOT say that about the ant control! There have been service techs here twice now to deal with the problem of these small ants in our kitchen and the situation just continues to get worse. The sticky traps they gave me are capturing some of them--and that has even been large number--but they just keep increasing in this area more than any other area. My last contact with them could not promise another available technician for almost a week! I am VERY disappointed with their vain apologies and efforts to help better.

      Business Response

      Date: 08/05/2025

The customer contacted us on 7/31 and was scheduled for a follow-up service on 8/5. It is common to see an increase in pest activity after treatment, as the products begin working and pests become more active before the population diminishes.
We have coordinated with the customer to provide multiple follow-up services, all at no additional cost, to help address the ongoing ant issue. We remain committed to working with the customer until the problem is resolved to their satisfaction.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is presently satisfactory to me. I WILL however continue to monitor their work.  It just seemed so unusual to see such a huge increase in activity mostly in only one area of the house. and I was rather disappointed with needing to try my own remedies in the mean time.

I was getting my child out of our vehicle, I was approached by an extremely aggressive representative from Bug Shark. Despite my immediate and repeated rejections of their service, the representative persisted. He employed high-pressure tactics, falsely claiming that my neighbor had recently used their service with positive results and stating it was his "last day on the job," implying a special offer.
He then presented a document detailing various insects their service could eliminate. Even as I continued to decline, clearly stating, "I have my son and a pet, Sir," and doing so on video camera while holding my child, he continued his sales pitch. He repeatedly emphasized that it was his "last day," and he could offer a "cut price," yet he never provided details about the service itself, nor did he disclose that the contract only covered four visits or the true total price.
What makes this situation particularly egregious is that I had no prior bug problems in my home. However, since Bug Shark's my home has become infested with various insects. This has significantly impacted my family's quality of life:
      * I am unable to safely put my son down.
      * My cat, previously an indoor pet, now refuses to stay inside.
      * My girlfriend is uncomfortable in the upstairs area of our home.
      * We can no longer have friends over due to the infestation.
Furthermore, I am now being charged an additional $120 for canceling a service that I felt was unwanted from the start and has demonstrably worsened my living conditions. My home, which was previously bug-free, is now compromised, causing significant distress and inconvenience. I received no apologies/acknowledgment of the problems their service has created.
I am seeking a resolution for the damages incurred and the immediate termination of any outstanding financial obligations. My home has been severely impacted, and I hold Bug Shark accountable for the current pest infestation and the resulting disruption to my family's well-being

      Business Response

The customer enrolled in service on 5/15/25 and signed the service agreement, which was emailed and opened twice for review. In addition, a video was taken of the customer and our sales representative inside the home reviewing the agreement’s coverage, pricing, and terms.
During the first service, the customer signed a welcome checklist with the technician, and treatment was completed inside the home. As outlined in the agreement, a temporary increase in pest activity after the first treatment can occur and is normal. We provide free re-services to address any concerns, but when the customer called to cancel on 5/26/25, a free re-service was offered and declined.
Per the agreement, a cancellation fee applies. In this case, $100 was waived, and the remaining balance represents the discount applied to the first service—essentially covering the work that was performed and accepted. This is consistent with the signed agreement, the recorded review of the terms, and the welcome checklist.
Following discussion with a manager, the customer agreed to a payment plan of $20/month until the balance was paid. To date, only one payment of $20 (on 6/18/25) has been made, and subsequent payment attempts have been unsuccessful.
The service agreement, welcome checklist, and service report are attached for reference.

On 7/2/2025 I was unsolicited at my door by a sales man from Bug shark pest control. I was under the impression the service was for all pest control including termite control which I have through another service and I told him if he gives me pest control and termite control I would sign up. I even showed the sales guy my bait boxes for termites and pests on my property, he said they were universal & they would use them.

At my first service on 7/7/2025 the tech said they don't offer termite service in my area, only Cincinnati. I called customer service to explain what happened and she told me she would have a manager contact me. I spoke to a manager on 7/11/2025 and she said that the tech was new and needs to be educated. She stated that she would file a complaint against the sales guy. She said she could charge me for installation of $600 & termite fees of $49 monthly in addition to my service. I explained I was told termite protection was all included in my service and they would use my bait holders. I had paid $48.26 for the initial visit.

I asked to cancel my service due to misrepresentation. She closed my account. She waived the term fee of $100 and refused to waive the promotional fee of $273.49. On 7/15/2025 I received a text, and a phone call saying that the balance of $273.49 is now past due!

      Business Response

      Date: 07/22/2025

The service plan in question does not include termite coverage. As outlined in the signed agreement, termites are listed under “quotable services” and are not part of the general pest control plan. Termite treatment is a separate service with its own pricing.
Regarding the termination fee, the amount reflects the discount applied at the time of initial service—$100 was waived from the original cost with the understanding that the plan would be maintained for the agreed-upon term. The amount being requested is to cover the work that was already completed at the customer’s home. The service agreement, which outlines both included and excluded pests, is attached for reference.

I was told differently by the sales person that came to my home when I signed up for the termite control and pest control. I was told it was all included with my coverage! Now I am being told that is it not and I don’t want the service if I can’t have what I was told that I would pay $45 initially. I already paid the $48.00 for the initial visit that I did have!  I do not believe I should have to pay the $273.49 promotional fee that they want to charge me for canceling because of their misrepresentation! Bug Shark continues to call me and text  me daily saying it’s past due now when I spoke to a manager on 7/11/2025. I am asking for this to be resolved.

We are willing to waive an additional $100 from the balance, but the charge is for work that was done at the customers home, which they accepted.  Attached is the service report detailing the pricing for the service and the discounted amount.

I was told by the sales person the charge each month would be $45 plus tax and I agreed to that amount for the service of terminate protection and pest control which I went over with him at my front door. I paid for my first service. The amount due is a cancellation fee and now I am told a promotional fee not for the service that I received in my first and only visit. I don’t understand why I should have to pay for a service fee when I am not getting the service that I was told that I would get from the sales person! I don’t understand why as a company you are not making this right at this time I am asking for all of this fee to be waived due to the misrepresentation of your employee with your company, BugShark so I don’t have to further my actions.

I spoke to Kim in Customer Service regarding what had happened. She took the time to really listen to me and she acknowledged that a mistake was done by their employee and she said that we are all human mistakes do happen. She told me she would resolve this and call me back and to my surprise she did call me back the same day. She told me my account had a zero balance and she sent to me in writing with a zero balance invoice.
I appreciate her listening to me and quickly taking care of this matter of removing the fee because of a misrepresentation of services I was told I would receive from their employee. I would recommend Kim in customer service for all your needs as she does stand behind BugShark and believes in and likes her job, which I commend her for that.

A door knocker from this business came to my door on 14May2024. I was persuaded to sign up for the service on the spot for bugs and mosquitos. This was to be a monthly service. They came the next day (15May) and sprayed. I was then charged on 14June, and reached out because a service was not scheduled and I was still having a big problem. They then booked my service for 17June and no-showed. I reached out about the no show and they came out on 19Jun. I was charged 15Jul with again no service scheduled. I reached out with my concern and was blown off by customer service. Per the contract that I signed, they are to charge AFTER services are rendered. On 14Aug I was charged again with no service booked, and I disputed the charge. They never reached out to schedule the August service, and I reached out to terminate the contract 4September. They have refused to confirm the termination to me in writing, despite not fulfilling their contract. They are now threatening to send me to collections over a $128 charge that I disputed for a service that was never received, on top of a cancellation and termination fee. Again, because they never met the terms of the contract (every 4 weeks and charged after a service), I do not think that I should be charged for termination and cancelation. They are refusing to send me anything in writing and continue to call me to harass me. At this rate, I simply do not want to be contacted by this company and would like written confirmation that this is resolved.

My son was approached by an aggressive door to door salesman and pressured into signing a contract for pest control. I had no idea he had signed any kind of contract. The first time the guy went around the house and spritzed something, brushed cobwebs and left $74. He was here 8-10 minutes. The second time he spritzed around the house, 4 minutes tops. $181 hits the card. The third time no one saw him, but another $181 hit the card.

I just called to cancel the services and was told my son signed a 12 month, no an 18 month contract (he refreshed his screen) with them and that it was going to cost upwards of $500 to get out of the contract. OR the contract would remain open, but show no payment and be sent to collections, hit my son’s credit, collection agencies would be calling…but he made sure to tell me he wasn’t threatening me. I told him I would not be paying.

A 17 year old cannot legally sign a contract which I told him upfront, so the contract should be voided automatically. I am not paying to get out of a contract that has already cost $436 for a guy to walk the perimeter of the outside of my house and spritz something on the ground where there are still ants and bugs running around prolifically after he left and currently.

I want this contract dissolved and a refund of services, I do not consider “rendered”.

The man speaking to me on the phone was rude, threatening while reminding me he wasn’t threatening me and refused to acknowledge the fact that what should be done immediately was to cancel the contract. He insisted on keeping the contract open, saying we would continue to owe money and that if we didn’t pay (they have the credit card number so he knows he’s getting paid), and said some time next week a ticket would be open with the sales person, or a supervisor, or both, and they’d try to “investigate this”. “In the meantime the contract remains active” his words.

      Scammers of the biggest scam.

At this time we have provided 3 services at the customers home, an initial and two standard treatments.  For the initial service the tech was on on site for 34 minutes, and during the standard services was on site for 22 minutes and 29 minutes.  The customer did not express concerns about the length of time spent at each service, if known, we would have happily returned to ensure the customer was satisfied with the work we did. The agreement we have on file is for 18-months, but we would be willing to lower it to 12-months should the customer like to do so.  Should the customer still want to discontinue, we are willing to close the account at this time and provide no future services without any fees associated.

I am a disabled veteran, and a salesman for this company came to my door. I wasn't interested, because I treat my own yard and house. The salesman was very pushy and insistent. He said that they have a discount for military/veterans. I was not informed about a contract, nor did I sign anything. If I had been told that it was a 18 month contract that has a cancelation fee, I would not have accepted it. That is false advertising/misleading. I received the first treatment, and it was not effective. I tried to call, but no answer. Left voicemail, no return call. The next treatment was shoddy, the "technician" didn't have any real equipment. Bug problems still remained, and they billed me $167.00 (the first bill was $40.00). Again, I called, left a voice mail, and no response. Today, they sent a text saying that they would be here 10/16/2024. I sent a text back saying not to come, that I canceled my treatment. I then received a text saying someone would call me. A lady called me, and insisted that I have to pay a $400.00 cancelation fee as per contract. I said that I wasn't going to pay anything for bad service, and that I will take legal action if needed. Poor service

I was approached by a door to door salesman. He offered to extend the scope of bug coverage for virtually the same price I was paying with a competitor, *******. The salesman could see I had Rodent coverage but neglected to add the coverage to the new contractor with Bug Shark. He told me ******* would remove the existing traps and I would receive the new Traps which I would then own as part of their service. The new traps were never delivered. The Service Tech on the second monthly visit told me I didn't have rodent coverage. The Tech provided sloppy and incomplete service on that visit. I tried calling customer service but never was able to speak to anyone. I cancelled the service after a month because I wasn't able to get satisfaction. Bug Shark is now charging me a cancellation fee and promo charge for a service that I didn't receive. Buyer beware! This company is not customer friendly or honest.

So I was approached by a door to door salesman early this spring for an insect treatment service. The young man seemed nice enough and explained that they were a new local company. He also explained that after three services that if I was not satisfied that I could cancel without any questions. After three services the impact on the insects did not meet expectations and I called to cancel my service, paying my final balance for three services. Approximately three days later I received a voicemail from the company asking if there was a way to resolve my concerns to in order to retain me as a customer. I did not return the call as I was interested. Recently I received a text message saying they were on their way out to perform my next treatment. I text back saying my service had been canceled previously. The technician replied ok I will let them know and proceeded to perform the service anyway. I then received a bill for the service and it was automatically billed to my credit card. I called in an attempt to try to get this resolved and am told that they didn't have any notes in the system and that if I now want to cancel that I would need to pay an additional cancellation fee. Now I have been billed for an additional unwanted forth service and a cancellation fee on top. EXTREMELY FRAUDULANT COMPANY!!!!

Our goal is to provide clear and timely communication to all of our customers so we hate that you don't feel that the terms of the contract were  relayed to you correctly. I do see that a copy of the signed contract was emailed to you right after it was signed on 5/2/22 at 4:22pm. On 7/29/2024 at 2:30pm you left a voicemail with our customer service department and you were again emailed a copy of the signed service agreement. Someone tried calling you right back on 7/29/2024 at 2:33pm and left you a voicemail. On 9/17/2024 when you asked the technician not to treat your home, he had already completed the service. It appears you spoke with a customer service representative yesterday at 1:07pm and your account has officially been closed and the contract has been terminated.

      Unresolved:
The business responded to the dispute but failed to make a good faith effort to resolve it.
      Answered:
The business addressed the issues within the complaint, but the consumer either a) did not accept the response, OR b) did not notify BBB as to their satisfaction.
      Unanswered:
The business failed to respond to the dispute.
      Unpursuable:
BBB is unable to locate the business.
A high pressure salesman came to our door. I attempted to get him to leave, but he kept talking and I eventually caved in.. I had a provider with which I was extremely satisfied, but he said that they were a really small new business and REALLY needed our business. He refused to just leave information so that I could investigate.
It turns out that they are NOT a fledgling business and have some seriously bad reviews online. They are not even recognized by the BBB.
I have attempted to cancel the contract and pay the appropriate cancellation fee. The original number that I called (provided by the high pressure salesman) no longer is answered and that last time that I called, it said that there was no mailbox set up. I then went online to their site yesterday, called the number there and explained that I wanted to cancel; they said that someone would call me back, but it has not happened. I called again today multiple times; machine answered and said that I was next in line. I held for over 10 minutes and no response. I did this THREE times.
Then I called from another number; the rep said that I needed to talk to someone else and that they would call me back "in the next few minutes." It has now been 30 minutes and no call.
I want to get rid of them. Please help.
