I called **** ***** to have a lot surveyed, so I can build a new garage. He stated it would cost a *********. I accepted the price and he arrived the next day. Note, I lack experience in the cost of surveying. I asked him to include the elevation of my lot and said OK. Mr. ****** unloaded a Segway (a two wheeled cart to move around without walking). Later, I looked outside and noticed he going around neighborhood stopping at different locations on both sides of the street using his instruments. Neighbors started noticing he was in their yard and digging up small patches of grass. After about two hours, Mr. ****** came to my door announcing he was finished. He showed me small steel pins (stakes) in the ground which were covered with a couple inches of dirt prior to being uncovered. The stakes were at each corner of my lot next to fence posts. I asked him about the elevation and he gave me a number that I wrote down. He proceeded to a spot on the road in front of my neighbors home. He then hammered a screw into the road to mark the spot. Note, an auto approached while he was getting ready to put the screw in the road. He tried to wave them to go around but a one lane road makes that difficult. They waited for him to finish. I asked him about documentation. He stated that would be another *******. I gave him ******** and he left. Later, I realized the discovery of my lot stakes was about a 30 minute task and the rest of activities were charade to make it look like he was doing something of consequences. The elevation number is to far from my lot to be accurate. I recommend that you do NOT use Barnes Surveying.
