On Tuesday 11/29/2022, I was in the ****** *** location of the Cookie Jar. My daughter was missing her Dad, my late husband, he would always get her cookies when he came home after business trips. We go and order cookies and 1 cupcake to leave near my late husbands memorial, we go to pay and the girl behind the counter says they dont take swipe credit cards. I asked why? Its a debit card with my name on it. She says the only thing they swipe is **** Gift Cards. I asked for a manager and a girl name ******** says that its for safety. So there is more fraud with **** gift cards and Apple Pay then any other forms of payment but they dont accept a **** debit card that has to be swiped. I work with the state and we address fraud, so I know that swipe % of fraud is minimal compared to **** Gift Cards to pay and Apple Pay. I asked the manager if she is going to cover the *** charge and she laughed and said NO. So I left to go to the ***, with my daughter crying because she thought I wasnt getting cookies and the cupcake. I walk to ********** let me mind you I have extreme lymphedema and a short walk is extremely brutal to my legs. I use the *** and come back. When I get back I see the girl behind the counter about to put back the cupcake. Never once did I say I wasnt coming back. I asked for a business card and the manager gives me a post it with just a 1st name listed. My card has my name on it, its the card that my late husbands Social Security goes on for my children. Asking for proof of ID is more fraud protection than taking **** Gift Cards and Apple Pay. I also asked for the signage that stated no swipe Debit cards, they have signs that say **** accepted but nothing about non chip cards.
