I am filing a complaint regarding ***** Auto Service.Timeline and charges - June 6, 2025: The shop replaced my vehicles auxiliary battery for $135.59. The auxiliary battery failure warning reappeared the next day. The shop initially said the battery was defective and ordered a replacement.- Subsequent visit: The shop then reversed course and said the prior failure was not due to a bad battery, and that diagnostics were required. We scheduled a diagnostic appointment.- July 22, 2025: The shop performed diagnostics and billed $375.73. I was not provided a written estimate, a time/cost cap, or a policy stating they would stop and obtain my authorization before continuing beyond a certain number of labor hours. The shops findings were inconclusive. The invoice stated:Needs signal activation module. May need to diagnose further after we install new module if problem still there.I was asked to purchase an approximately $1,000 part primarily to test whether it might resolve the issue, with no assurance the problem would be fixed.Additional concerns - The shop told my credit card company that the diagnostic charge had been discounted. That is not accurate. I asked for a discount and was refused.- The posted labor rate on June 6, 2025, was $119/hour and on July 22, 2025, it was $139/hour. I received no prior notice of the *********** date, I have paid $511.32 ($135.59 + $375.73), the warning persists, and the cause remains undetermined. Why I am seeking BBB assistance - No written estimate or clear authorization checkpoints for diagnostic time. - The shops diagnosis was inconclusive, yet I was asked to fund an expensive part installation to see if it might solve the issue.- The statement to my card issuer that a discount was provided is inaccurate.Requested resolution - Refund the $375.73 diagnostic charge, given the lack of written estimate/authorization for extended diagnostics and the inconclusive result.
