I brought my 2013 VW Touraeg into Thomas Automotive to diagnose an EVAP leak and to replace 2 tires that were flat. They called me a couple days later stating that the cost to repair would be $1600 and that an entire assembly (fuel pump filters) would be required to fix the issue. I declined at that moment as I was informed by Preston ****** (the mechanic I have been in contact with) that the only issue was one of the filters. He informed me he called everywhere in town and they only sold the complete assembly. I proceeded to call ONE place, a Volkswagen dealer and they informed me it was not true. I could get just the filter for a couple hundred bucks from them. So, I declined repairs from Thomas Automotive at this time. When I declined the repair he informed me he would get me a price back the next day for the work done. Let me be clear, I received no written estimate at this time. I also have received no verbal estimate other than the $1600 total cost but while on the phone Preston informed me that they already replaced two tires and have done the diagnostic. No price or estimate for those yet. Despite this I am willing to pay a fair price for fair work. So, the next day my wife called in and Preston informed her the diagnostic charge was $770ish dollars. This was AFTER the work was done. I proceeded to go pick my car up as I did not want to occur any other charges. My issue is the bill total. I was charged $770 for diagnostic and 2 USED UNMATCHING SIZE TIRES, I did not know this about the tires until I picked up the car either. They also did not balance them. Crazy... I am seeking a fair price on the labor only however. I was charged for 4 hours labor to change two tires and diagnose the issue. They inflated the labor hours drastically. Again all the labor to INSTALL the part took me under 1 hour. They claim it took them 4 total at $130/hr. I contacted the business after the fact trying to resolve this. 6 shops have quoted me under an hour to diagnose the issue.
