I resided at Chateau Calais apartments for 4 years (8/19-8/23). The carpet was not new when I moved in, in fact it was visibly worn and had not been changed out. I moved out at the end of August 2023. I did I walk through with an employee/agent of the management company who advised that I would get my deposit back in full ($535), She specifically told me that the carpet was aged and needed replacement and that I would not be responsible for its condition due to its necessary replacement. I moved out of state. Today, I received a remittance of my deposit where despite the employee's/agent's assurances, $310 was charged for "carpet repair." The carpet was well over 5 years old and the employee/agent even noticed how worn it was and needed replacement. The management company should have historical records in its possession of when that carpet was replaced. In fact, I complained to them in emails when I moved in about the smell of smoke in the apartment and they offered to have the carpets "re-cleaned" so I know for a fact that the carpet was not new when I moved in 4 years ago and had been in that apartment for at least 5 years when I moved out, likely more. I believe they only charged me because they knew I was moving out of state making it more difficult to pursue a claim for $300 in small claims court in LV. I assure you that if given access to their business records regarding when carpet is replaced in apartments in that community in the normal course of business, those records would reveal that carpet is replaced sooner than 5 years, and would have been replaced in that apartment because of its age, which is why the employee / agent told me that I would not be charged. I was only charged because the person remitting the check saw an opportunity to take advantage of the situation with me being out of state.
