Gift cards were purchased. The company goes bankrupt, then comes back. How is this ok for the consumer to not be able to use the gift card? Where is the protection for the customer?Initial Complaint

I have been trying for a few days to get an issue resolved. There is no corporate number to reach out to. I have searched. In April 2024, I purchased two rugs in anticipation of my home remodeling that unfortunately ran over its deadline. It was completed this weekend. Today, I finally opened the rugs that I purchased in April and realize they do not fit, nor do I like them. I am apparently 20-days beyond returns, according to your customer service. In my past experience, I have done this before with remodels, and returning rugs has never been an issue. I am not asking for my money back, a merchandise credit is sufficient. Their customer service will not help me.Initial Complaint

I bought a $100 gift card with no expiration date from bed, bath&Beyond. Overstock will no longer honor gift cards issued by ********************************** when a company buys a different company out of bankruptcy, don't they also buy those debts?Business Response

To Whom It May ****************** product was not purchased from Overstock, now Bed Bath & Beyond.
The new Bed Bath & Beyond is not the same company as the former Bed Bath & Beyond. ********* only purchased their intellectual properties, allowing for the name change.
The customer's complaint is with the former company.

We received Bed Bath and Beyond Gift Cards for our wedding and when I went onto the BB&B website to use them toward the purchase of furniture, it said the number was invalid. When I called the customer service number on the gift card for help, a woman answered saying she was BB&B customer care and and before hearing what I was calling about, she tried to pressure sell me into accepting a free life alert type of device just by giving her all of my personal info. The number is **************. Of course I hung up and then called the customer service number on the website which is **************. This rep told me that my gift cards can no longer be used because BB&B has closed all brick and mortar stores and is now is run by Overstock and their online service. I have been a loyal customer of both of these companies for many years but regardless, how is it reasonable or legal in anyway for this to occur? We were gifted quite a bit of money for our wedding via BB&B gift cards and now the old company gets to keep the money and the buyer (Overstock) does not have to honor them? The back of the gift card reads *********** fee or expiration dates are connected with the use of this gift card". The rep from ********* said that does not apply here because they aren't expired gift cards, they are gift cards that can no longer be honored. I feel that this should have been handled (especially at this level of a merger/buyout). All I want is to be able to use the dollar amount gifted to us by our friends and family toward purchases on items through BB&B or even Overstock at this point. Or refund the people that gave us the gift cards. This occurred on 6/3/24 at 7pm.Business Response

Over the past year, since Bed Bath and Beyond went bankrupt and cancelled my card, the balance of which I paid off, I have been billed for purchases I never made. I have called them and written to them . Here is what I sent them this morning:"I have told you repeatedly over the past year that I have not had a BBB account since you filed for bankruptcy and canceled my card. I have called and written to you. You have confirmed via phone that I do not have an account. Yet, I get a bill every month and the balance goes up. I am reporting this to the better Business Bureau so I am not held accountable for any delinquency."Initial Complaint

I have three gift cards from having my baby shower that Bed Bath and Beyond are not honoring despite them saying "there is no expiration date". They created an arbitrary expiration date with the ownership change without notifying those with gift cards creating a loss of $300 dollars for me. This is an immoral company that does not honor its debts that were assumed when acquiring with new ownership. I will never use them again for purchases, gifts or registries as they can not be trusted. I called customer service multiple times and received no compensation.Initial Complaint

I was gifted a gift card from Bed Bath and Beyond and I cannot use it. This gift card has an 8 digit pin and the website only allows me to put 4 digits. The back of my gift card says, ********** fees or expiration dates are connected with the use of this gift card and yes on the website, it says that if it was purchased before August 2023, it is unusable and therefore l should be able to receive a replacement.Business Response
