    I was told that my security deposit of $1,500.00 would be refundable. I own a youth *************** and I was reserving their facility for my major dinner on 20 September 2025. Had to cancel due to my board of directors couldn't raise enough funding for the amount of the event center. They said a paid for to reserve their venue. Their contract has that the $1,500.00 was refundable.

    Per the signed contract, the venue rental fee ("License Fee") for a ******* rental is $5,950. To secure the event date, a non-refundable down payment of $2,975 is required, as outlined in Section 3(i) of the agreement:
    A non-refundable down payment fee in the amount of Two Thousand Nine Hundred Seventy-Five Dollars ($2,975) to hold the Event Date (the Down Payment Fee) is due and payable to Licensor upon the execution of this Agreement by Licensee(s)


    On May 5, 2025, an email was sent to the client/ licensee confirming receipt of a $500 money order, noting that the required deposit to secure September 20th was $2,975. There was no response to that message. Following up, the General Manager reached out and arranged an in-person meeting, which took place on May 30, 2025. At that meeting, client/licensee signed the contract and made an additional $500 payment toward the required deposit.


    At that time, the General Manager also explained the payment structure to the client/licensee and documented the breakdown on paper, which can be seen in a photo the client/licensee emailed over to the Fairview email.


    To clarify: the $1,500 refundable security deposit is not used to secure the client/licensee's event date. It is a separate payment that is only due after the full $2,975 non-refundable down payment has been made. The security deposit serves solely as protection against damages or overages and is fully refundable after the event, provided no issues arise.


    The client/licensee's two payments totaling $1,000 had been applied toward the $2,975 deposit, leaving a remaining deposit balance of $1,975. As also indicated on the client/licensee's receipt, the total venue rental charge is $5,950, with a current balance at $4,950. The $1,500 refundable security deposit remains unpaid and is not due until the event date is officially secured.
