We have outstanding claims with College HUNKS since July 16, 2025. During the move a wall was damaged in the new rental house, as well as an expensive XBOX with extension package went missing/was stolen. We contacted the local office, completed the necessary claims forms online, and to date have not received any resolution/updates/call backs from that office. We have been in contact with the administrative director which has given us a solid run around, with excuses upon excuses. The standard being "everyone in the office has COVID," "we are on it." We had to initiate every phone call, asking for solid dates for damage repair, and answers to the missing XBOX. We called again today, Aug. 26, 2025, this time the administrative director tried her usual deflection and when pressed for concrete answers, she became hostile. We are in the process of disputing the missing electronic device, the damage to the wall, and the electronic tip given the day of the move (guys also got a cash tip). According to their emails, the company will move with undue delay in processing claims, keep customers apprised of claim status, next steps, and its conclusion; adding the statement that it may take up to 30 days to process. In this case we are way past that, and all of those promises have been false.Initial Complaint

I hired College Hunks of ****** NC to move me from ** to ** on April 7/8, 2025. When the moving truck arrived, it was too small for my belongings but the moving guys packed it very tightly by literally putting all of my stuff on the sidewalk and fitting it like a puzzle. As a result, many items were damaged. I reported the worst of the problems and after a couple of emails, received a response that indicated I would receive $200 for the repairs. The email requested that I confirm my address for the check to be sent but have received nothing. No emails or phone calls are returned. My move was $4248 so a mere $200 for damages for a poorly planned move should have been sent promptly. I feel like I have been scammed by this company.Business Response

My response to your inquiry:Please see the response below that was sent to the client after she posted a 1-Star Review on ******. In transparency, this client had two small damages and was not our client, her mother was. This is the daughter of the client making these negative claims, yet we responded to her as if she were the client. Her damages on almost 8000 lbs of transported property on an interstate move was $200. This is way below what most movers would consider negligible damage. Her attempt to cause economic harm to our business by posting this review, in fact gave us the opportunity to point out that although we enjoy a 4.9 ****** review rating and we are the most reviewed mover in the ********* region, we are not perfect, yet we did everything possible to provide a safe and economical move. We did our best to satisfy the needs of this client as we do with all clients. You are welcome to resend her the response below which is also posted on Google. In closing, it is my understanding that the BBB strives to protect small businesses as much as the consumer. In this case, the daughter of our client sought to discredit our business and cause us economic harm by use of ****** with a review that is completely without merit. As an example of the lack of merit, it is customary to stage furniture next to a truck when "cubing" out the load to make sure damage is minimized. In this case, the mother and daughter were in a duplex situation and items were being brought out and loaded from both apartments. As I point out in my response to her review, the tighter you can pack a truck when cubing, allows you to minimize damage and also create the most economical situation for a client. We could have very easily charged for an additional truck, but we did our best to avoid that and in fact did. In closing, I am interested in meeting with one of your representatives to better understand the value of BBB and how we can better work with you. If you look at our ****** reviews, you will note that although not perfect, we seek perfection and very few movers have a profile such as ours. Please contact me at ************ to schedule time to meet. You can also send me an email: *********************************************************************************************************** I am the owner of the busines. No moving company is perfect and we certainly don't claim to be. This is proof that we in fact are not perfect, but to say "stay away" is a bit unreasonable, particularly considering a review like this is very unusual for us. In response to your feedback, that we used "too small of a truck," you were moved on a 26' Move Van. That's as big as they get without crossing over the 26K non-cdl limit. Once you go beyond 26K pounds, there is a requirement that the driver have a CDL, and the rig be rated for greater than 26K lbs. That increases your moving expense. As you were right on the edge of the weight and volume for a 26' move truck, we knew it would be tight. We could have added a second truck to your interstate move, but that would have resulted in more expense for you. Instead, your crew worked extra hard to pack your truck tight. A tightly packed truck is a good thing in that it limits movement of property and actually reduces damage potential. Your check was mailed and we did not refuse to respond to your emails or phone calls, we have simply been very busy over the past couple of weeks and our claims agent has been working away from his desk. You were responded to and a check for the small damage you experienced was mailed. Your mover has been with us for nearly five years and is a consistent 5-Star review recipient. He did his best to move you as economically as possible and was proud that he was able to avoid the need for a second truck. This review, while deserved, causes me concern as we will no longer seek to reduce the need for a second truck and increased expense to the client when volume and weight limits are close. We always regret damage. Your damage claim was for two items yet you make it sound like a lot of your property was damaged. That was not the case. We are truly sorry you had a negative experience with us as that is not at all our desire.Initial Complaint

I recently utilized College Hunks to move from *************** to ************* in May 2024. After moving from one location to the next, I discovered several damaged items. It appeared that the moving crew attempted to hide the damage before departing. I took pictures of all the damage and contacted College Hunks moving staff via phone multiple times. Each time I was told the manager was busy. I filled out the damaged items paperwork for the 3 main items that were damaged. 1: Refrigerator value ******* that I had purchased less than two months prior to moving. The movers had removed the refrigerator handles and doors while moving the refrigerator from the old residence, because they stated it would not fit through the door yet it was delivered by Lowes through the same door without removing the doors or handles. Damage through negligence, I requested replacement of the refrigerator due to scratches and damages were not repairable. After repeated calls to College hunks, I was told to find my own repair person and they would cover the repair cost. I called back again noting that every repair tech I spoke with stated the scratches could not be removed.2. Gunsafe: valued ******* when purchased now ******* to replace. damage to the locking mechanism resulting in having to hire a locksmith to drill the door to gain access rendering the safe forever unusable. The damage was obvious and movers attempted to cover the damage up. 3. A neon sign given to me by a company owner was thrown in a large box with workout weights pilled on top without being wrapped. Damage through negligence; value undetermined due to being a gift from the company owner who gifted to me. I received an email from the manager with a scanned form stating they would only reimburse me around 700 due to me signing a form preventing further reimbursement. The form scanned did not have my signature and several initials on the form are obviously different from each other.Initial Complaint

I hired College Hunks to load my POD. They came on 5/16/24. I asked for my white couch to be wrapped. Firstly they didnt load everything they were supposed to. They left quite a few things in the condo. These were expensive items. They did not wrap my couch and they did not strap anything in even though I bought the straps. When it arrived in ** and we opened the door my boxes and furniture were everywhere on top of each other. There happened to be College Hunks from NY unloading a neighbor. They said they have never seen a job done so poorly. The ** from here were kind enough to unload the truck and we found damage to my couch and furniture. I took pictures showing what it looked like when we opened the door and so did the other moving company.Initial Complaint

Hired the hunks to move me from ********** ** to ******* **. The contract said 3 men would move me. The 3 men that showed up were ***** years of age and 2 of them had been on the job 2 weeks. The movers ended up damaging many things I stopped counting. I made them aware of the cracked TV, dented dryer and water cooler the stained carpet and various wall damage. I have wood floor damage, door way damage , and just a completely stressed out situation. The damage I reported, was .60 a pound. I did not take further insurance because I have moved 6x, from short moves to state to state moves and Have not had the need for more insurance or had any damage in those moves. I did not argue the reimbursement cost because that was the contract, but the contract said 3 men, I did not mind young men but when I questioned the lead mover he said the other 2 men were inexperienced and wrote he needed a better crew on the claims form, which is included. I also spoke to the marketing person, who told me they had many sick calls on the day of the move, 05/02/2023, and had to send this crew.I spoke to the manager a week later, when he finally e-mailed me. He wrote back in an e-mail that the crew had nothing to do with it and they had a month's experience, I did not argue with him. My things were ruined ,it was a very stressful day. I paid ******* for the move and received ****** back in damages. I realize that was the .60/pound and I am not arguing that issue. I was in a contract, but if I have to adhere to the contract, the company should adhere to the contract as well.Initial Complaint

In the summer of 2022 I had to move from. ** to Ma for medical reasons. My original movers no showed me so College hunks came in at the last minute to get me out of a moving bind. I had to depart due to health issues, so I left with explicit instructions and sticky notes and my neighbors watching the packing. I was informed by my neighbors that after the Hunks left, one kitchen cabinet was not packed. My neighbors personally drove these items to College Hunks in ********** who stated that they would pack them and put them with my belongings in storage. Hunks accepted my items without stating that they can not take something from a third party. These items did not show up when I finally got to my new home. College hunks is now saying that they do not accept items from a third party. My neighbors will swear in court that they delivered these items undamaged and college hunks of ********** accepted them. these are the items that are missing and I expect to be reimbursed for:-full set of caphalon pans $259 -capholon frying pans $$85 -capholon strainer $12 -three various sized strainers $12 -pie plates $20 -antique green bowl from a set $10 -large plant pot $50 -******* globe for a table lamp $100 -fitz and ***** canister set $125 These items have been lost/stolen by College Hunks and I would like a full refund. $673.00Initial Complaint

I hired this company to pack and move all of my belongings from one apartment to another in the same town. They moved my stuff on August 26th, 2022. They gave me a quote, which I felt was too high but it was very last minute, so I agreed. I was in Washington state trying to coordinate this because I am a travel nurse. They finished early and that was reflected in the price they charged. I paid them just over $1700 for a little over 6 hours of work. They left everything on my patio, several closets of stuff and some kitchen items in my old apartment. The only reason I knew is because my son went to check after they "finished". I had to hire more movers to finish the job, very last minute as I had to be out of my old apartment on August 27th. They did a horrible job packing. Things are broken, none of the boxes are labeled, I am missing things, my son's power tools are ALL missing. I complained to the company when I called to pay for their services. The manager was out and was supposed to call me back and never did. They have done nothing to compensate me for having to hire another company to finish what they didn't complete nor have they done anything to compensate for the loss of my missing items. They do not respond to messages or phone calls. I will not use this company again and I would not recommend them to anyone else who needs a moving company.Business Response

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to the complaint submitted by ******** *********.
The client has made several comments that we want to clear up.
First, the estimate was scheduled for 8/19/2022 and preformed that day at 4:30 P.M. The requested job date was 8/25/2022, very tight turn around window, but we we're able to move things around and make it work. Estimate was sent over on 8/19/2022 and approved that same evening. The estimated cost may have seemed high to the client, but it was a third-floor apartment with a complete packing boxs, loading and delivering in the same day. The crew was able to get all this completed in 6.75 Hrs. Two hours under the estimate and the price reflected that, as stated by the client.
Secondly, as stated by the client, she was not onsite for the estimate or move. She had appointment her son to stand in for her as the representative. The son signed all the following forms:
Liability Waiver:
I have completed a walk-through at the origin and noted none of my property has been left behind. (Signed)
Upon Completion I have examined the carrier's truck front and back and noted none of my property remains on the truck. (Signed)
Work Order:
The Customer (Or Their Representative) by their signature hereby declares the services outlined herein to have been completed on their behalf and are subject to payment for the performed services immediately. (Signed)
Estimate:
I accept the above estimate by College Hunks Moving. I understand that by accepting this estimate, I am entering into a contract with College Hunks Moving to perform the work described in the estimate. (Signed)
If the origin was not completely cleared to the representatives satisfactory, he should have notified the crew onsite so they could have gotten those items while they we're onsite. I have attached all these documents in this email to show visual of all signed documents.
Third, with ******** working in the hospital she was unable to make payment over the phone on the day of the move. We we're aware of this prior to the move and agreed we would reach out the following day. When my administrative called to collect payment which was received on 8/26/2022 at 11:47 AM, she then notified her of things that we're left at the Origin and stated she had to pay for another company to move those things for her. Having my email address and phone number, she never reached out to us to give us a chance to provide a solution to her. Even with the signatures clearing the Origin address, we still would have provided a solution for the client. Instead, requested us to compensate her for the additional expense.
Fourth, we follow all guidelines set forth by the North Carolina Utilities Commission in Raleigh, NC. They state "If a client has lost or damaged items, contact your mover for a claim. Claims will not be processed until you pay for the move in Full. Claims should be filed with the move as soon as possible, But No later than nine months after delivery." The client still has time to fill a damage claim with the company if damages occurred and we will handle it using the Basic Valuation selected and signed for at the day of the move that comes free with the move and at no cost to the client.
We advise all clients communicate complaints and claims by e-mail so we both have a documented record. Also, it can sometimes be difficult to reach us by phone during the day. We don't want missed calls to be cause for undue frustration.
Lastly, if there was suspected theft, we advise that all clients report it to the authorities immediately and we will cooperate with the law enforcement without hesitation. Our trucks are outfitted with interior cab and exterior cameras, as well as our warehouse and office. We do not and will not tolerate that type of behavior with any of our employees at College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving.
I will send the client via email our damage claims process so she can report her damages properly to the office so we can start the claims resolution.
Again, Thank you for the opportunity to hear our side of this situation and I hope you have a blessed day!
Sincerely,
Steven B****
