    On July 7, 2025 *** from Ace Tree and Landscape Service solicited my father, ******* ****** at his home at **** ******* *** in Leavenworth KS. My father is an elderly, disabled veteran who lives alone. He called to tell me that they offered to cut down a dying tree in his back yard and trim two other trees close to the house. They would cut the trees and haul off all of the wood and debris, but would leave him a small amount of wood for his fire pit. He told me that the price was $1500 and asked if I thought that was fair. I told him that as long as they were hauling away the debris I thought it was fair, but not to pay them until the work was complete. The same company solicited him last summer to do some work that was done without any problems, so he told them to proceed. The crew started the work, but left before it was finished. *** talked my dad in to paying them before they were done and promised they would return the next morning to finish. *** pressured my dad saying that they had worked for him before and he knew they could be trusted. *** asked for cash and told him the price had increased to $1700. He reluctantly paid them. They never returned. My dad left 2 messages and they weren’t returned. I called and left a vague message for the owner, ******, which was returned 2 days later. I told him what happened and he assured me that he would figure out what was going on and call me back. I have never received a call, and I sent him text messages which have also been ignored. There is about 14 feet of the tree still standing. We have had to remove the wood that was left laying on the ground and will ultimately have to have the rest of the tree removed. Additionally, this company does not have a license to cut trees or solicit door to door in the city of Leavenworth.
