February 1 , 2024 my wife ***** and I entered into a contract with Rustic Cabins of Maine to build a 36x14 cabin of which I custom designed. ***** ***** reviewed those plans and gave us a price of $25,100 to complete as drawn. The contract payment structure was as follows.$9000 to begin $8000 when completely closed in with windows, doors, metal roof and exterior siding and trim. $5000 when the interior electrical and plumbing was roughed in and insulation installed. $3100 at completion.We added base board heaters and two ceiling fans for an additional $500 and we paid that to them with the $5000 payment ( #3), in addition to that I purchased vinyl flooring for them to install. ($965) for that. ***** provided pictures along the progress of the build until I pointed out 3 items that we done incorrectly and not according to our plans. He and his girlfriend ***** ****** ( she advertises these cabin on ******** also it was her account the funds were wired to) became combative when these items were pointed out to them. They had no explanation for why things were done differently than the plan. A couple weeks go by with not much if any correspondence and it was known to them that ***** and I would be coming to Maine to our property to get the foundation ready for our cabin. May first we head for Maine. On May 7 we visited their property to see our cabin and take pictures and measurements for blinds and such. No progress was made. They had stopped working on the cabin, had not fixed the interior trim detail they installed different than the plan, medicine cabinet cut out was on the wrong wall, siding and interior V-match pine had a total of 57 knot holes and had not yet epoxied them. We noticed that no wiring was installed for the kitchen stove and the wiring for the microwave was also missing and all the walls and ceilings were finished, the electrician coming back to complete everything and arrange transport to our property. My husband and I reached out to this company to have a custom cabin built. We met with a gentleman named *****. We signed a contract on 6/24/2023 for a custom cabin that would total ******. We made the down payment of ***** but because there was a lot of rain our cabin was not completed by the estimated completion date which was 8/23/2023. We made several attempts to go see our cabin. Finally, they agreed to let us go view the cabin. The shell was complete so we gave them another 9000 dollars. They still have not completed our cabin and this has been a horrific experience. They hang up on us, they yell at us, they have sworn at us, and they won't let us see our cabin. Now they are stating that a tree fell on our cabin. We are about to call the police to see what can be done but would like to try this avenue first. We stilI want the cabin. It is my husband's dream to have one. He is a 31 year military vet and saved for so long for this cabin. I don't understand how they can get away with treating us this way. I am attaching a copy of the contract. If you think this will be a way to resolve this issue I also have all the text messages and a few pictures. Any help is greatly appreciated.Customer Answer

On September 24, 2022, I signed a contract with ********************* of Rustic Cabins of Maine, ************************** Maine *****, to build me a cabin following all Maines building codes and to be delivered to me on October 16, 2022. On September 24, 2022, I paid him a deposit of $12,000.00 to start the cabin. The total amount I paid him for the cabin is $26,880.00.After almost 4 months of ***** lying to me and delaying the building of my cabin, the cabin was delivered to me on January 12, 2023. The cabin was not finished and was not built to Maines building codes. He did not follow our contract while building the cabin.I had to pay out of pocket for some items that were in the contract and for some items he verbally told me were included in the contracted price.I am seeking $7100.00 to finish the cabin to meet Maines building codes.***** said he was going to come on January 16, 2023 to insulate the floor and bring the lights and tankless hot water heater. To, this day, he has never showed up.I do not know if ***** gets his mail delivered to his residential home and he frequently doesnt answer his phone or his girlfriend answers the phone.Customer Answer

On August 3rd 2022 saw an ad on ******** from Kandi of White Birch Cabins and Barns, ************************* Maine. ************. Spoke with ***** who said "you will love our buildings" Made and appointment to meet them at the above address on Sunday around 1:00pm which was an almost 4 hour drive. ***** said "meet me at the fire station". Strange texts back and forth regarding time but assumed they are builders have a lot going on. Met Kandi in her white older car at the fire station which she said "follow me up the road" Met the "crew". Nice cottages and as ***** and ***** stated they are building 50 plus cottages for another contactor, but can fit me in my timeline, schedule. "The crew" showed myself and my daughter cottages on-site which are already sold but again can get everything done in "2 weeks". Was satisfied with specs and delivery time. *************** in front of my daughter and "the crew" $1,800 in cash which I have a receipt. Approximately 30 minutes later ***** called me saying I only gave them $1,500. At that point, I knew I had been "HAD" My daughter looked this business up online and yes they are a scam! Called "*****" said I would be there on Wednesday, 2 days later with more money to see if I could get my hard earned money back. Contacted the ************************* who were kind enough to see if 3 days later I could get my money back. ***** was there, asked if the sheriff was with me, stated yes, I will need my money back. ***** called to wake up ***** on my phone to which she replied (we all overhead it) "I don't have any Fuc.ing money here its in the bank" Sherrif was again kind enough to look up the bank times, stating that "they were open" but "*****" stated "its a civil matter" to which the sheriff and myself both looked at each other and knew that these are scam artists. This Company is a scam and fraudulent construction company. I want my hard-earned money back.Customer Answer

I am not sure who/what Rustic Cabins is/are?
I gave a $1,800 Construction deposit to White Birch Cabins and Sheds to Build & Deliver to my address 2 Cabins as shown on the receipt. I did not receive a construction contract from ***********************, while pleasant and friendly it made me feel uncomfortable that this may be not a legitimate business, but I had already handed over my hard-earned money.
Secondly, the fact that after I left their facility, ***********, phone called me stating that I did not pay her the stated cash deposit while it was counted 3 times in front of 4 people, including herself.
Called the Penobscot County ********** office to assist in retrieving my hard-earned money back to which ***** stated in front of the ****************************** as he woke ************ up that I would receive via certified check overnight mail my deposit withing 5 business days. Never received.
Again, requesting $1,800 from this business for deposit of 2 Cabins/construction.
