Micro Gen DX, an external lab in ******* contracted by Chesapeake Urology (even though I live in ******** and the service was requested in ********?), is billing me for their services because my insurance provider, *************** Shield (BCBS) denied the claim, as it was coded by **************** of Chesapeake Urology as "experimental/investigational". These were standard lab tests, so these would normally be covered by insurance. Since September of last year, I have been requesting either a re-coding, or a letter of medical necessity to be sent to BCBS by ****************, so that BCBS will honor the claim. It has been almost 7 months, with NO response from the doctor OR Chesapeake Urology, while ************ has been threatening me with collections and a negative impact on my credit score. This is unacceptable behavior by a physician's office and must be resolved immediately. I do not want my credit score to be impacted by this, nor do I want the account to be sent to collections, and it could it have been easily resolved by a letter of medical necessity from the physician's office to BCBS, so they would honor the claim. I want to emphasize that I have contacted Chesapeake Urology about this SEVERAL times, and they have done NOTHING.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. Please note that the use of the third party lab WAS NOT the issue; the issue was the doctor's ****coding which led to a charge from the lab, which would normally have been covered by my insurance.

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, you must give us a reason why you are rejecting the response. If no reason is received your complaint will be closed as Answered]

     Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

This is a new complaint being filed against Dr. ****** and Chesapeake Urology. The original BBB complaint against this organization (#********) was due to their use of an out-of-network lab work provider (********************), who started billing me and threatening collections activities, as a result of Dr. ******** choice to do work with this lab. I NEVER approved the use of an out-of-network provider, as there is an ample amount of in-network labs who could have performed my lab work. BBB case #******** was closed in July of 2024, as the office billing manager claimed that they had resolved the issue with Microgen, by having them bill Chesapeake Urology directly. Apparently, THIS DID NOT HAPPEN. I just received a letter from **********, a collections agency representing ********, stating that I still owed them money!!! This is why I am filing this new complaint, as Dr. ****** and his staff either lied about their resolution, or have demonstrated complete incompetence in following through on their commitment!!!

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.  Yes, I understand that this was supposed to be zeroed out a long time ago, but clearly, I should not have received this collections letter.  I'm glad this was figured out, just not sure why it took this long.
