    Dear Cathy,

    RE: ********

Customer called us back in February of 2022 and explained that he had just had a new Jasper engine put in his Dodge Ram pick up truck, and after the engine was installed, the transmission quit working.  We told him to bring it in and we would look at it for him.  When the vehicle arrived at the shop it would not move when you put it in gear.  We pulled the transmission out of the vehicle and found that when the engine was installed, they failed to line up the Torque Converter with the Pump on the transmission which caused the pump in the transmission to strip out and fail.  We told the customer what we found, and I even sent him pictures of the damage.  He told me he was going to take it up with the shop that installed the engine.  Customer gave us approval to move forward with repairs on his vehicle.

On 2/18/22 the new Pump and new Torque Converter were received and installed, and the transmission was reinstalled into the vehicle.  The truck run and drove as it should.  I called Customer and informed him that the truck was ready for pick-up, and I gave him the total for the bill.  Customer did not come pick up the vehicle until 4/15/22.  Customer was extremely thankful and apologized for taking so long to come pick up the vehicle.  His Wife’s aunt had to pay for the repairs, because they didn’t have enough money to pay for it themselves.

On October 4th, the customer had the vehicle towed to our shop and he said the vehicle would not go in reverse and when it went into 3rd gear it was revving up and not pulling.  He said he had only drove it 100 miles.  I looked at the scanner that we use to scan every vehicle we work on and had to show the customer that he was in fact lying to us.  When the repairs were made in February (2/18/22) the vehicle had 117,067 miles.  On October 4th the vehicle had 120,140 miles on the odometer.

We already had over 10 vehicles at our garage being worked on and told his we would get to it when we could.  During this time, we also had to move our garage to a new location due to the old location being in a flood area.  The customer called weekly checking on his vehicle, and I told him we were moving to a new location and that it had put us behind on our work.  He said he understood and just asked if we could fix his truck as soon as possible.

In late October we pulled the transmission out and found that all the overdrive clutches were burnt up, as well as the reverse clutches.  The Pump and Torque Converter that were installed back in February still looked brand new.  I called customer and explained to him that this was a different problem than what was wrong with the truck last time we worked on it and made sure he understood that we don’t warranty parts that we didn’t install or work on.  He said he understood and told us to go ahead and repair his vehicle as soon as possible.

On 11/11/22 we installed a used transmission into the customer’s vehicle, and it was road tested.  Everything worked and operated as it should.

I called the customer to let them know it was ready for pick up.

As of 11/17/22 the vehicle is still here at the garage and has not been picked up or paid for by the customer.

Additional information available upon request, VIN, part #’s, copy of scanner files, etc…

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Sincerely,

    **** *******
