      I was a long-time client of SJHL but my CPA started her own firm and I chose to follow her. While working with SJHL, I was never charged for general advice—it was understood to be part of tax planning service. However, after my CPA moved on, SJHL suddenly sent me a retroactive and exhorbitant bill for advice that had always been complimentary in the past. When I reached out , I was met with curt responses and a less than subtle threat that they would simply send the bill to collections. The sudden change in billing practices felt retaliatory and completely out of step with the client service I had received from the CPA I worked exclusively with. Transparency and professionalism matter, and unfortunately, I didn’t experience that in this situation. My advice? Don't work with this firm. Your tax preparer should be a trusted professional and value service. As a firm, they miss the mark.
