On June 18th I purchased for my 2018 GMC Sierra pick-up truck a rebuilt transmission from a Mr. Charles Schlosser for $3825 at his auto repair shop, “ Chucks transmission rebuilding” located at 2721 South 11th st, Springfield, IL, 62703, Sangamon county. Mr. Schlosser made an oral agreement that he would install and program the transmission for $3825, and requested payment be made in advance in cash only.  After Mr. Schlosser said the job was completed the transmission was still not programmed as Schlosser had initially  included in the service, but instead referred me to his colleague. The colleague then requested yet another $1150 to program the transmission.  To date, I do not have my vehicle serviced in its entirety although I have paid thousands of dollars to Chucks Transmission rebuilding.  Additionally, I have had to rent a vehicle 5 different times thus incurring additional time and expense.  Without my truck I cannot pull my camper to my next job as I am a pipeliner and I travel.  Mr. Schlosser also refused to give me a written itemization before starting the work.  This constitutes deception, fraud, and concealment and is in direct violation of the Illinois Deceptive Trade Practices Act as it pertains to advertising goods or services with the intent not to sell them as advertised, and also engaging in a conduct that creates a likelihood of alleged confusion or misunderstanding by consumers. I am requesting investigation in this fraudulent company and reimbursement.

    Business Response

    Date: 08/05/2025

I have read the complaint submitted . It is my belief all the allegations leveled at me are false. I have proof in writing to show i programmed this vehicle on the GM sps service account. He does not have the knowledge to comprehend what is needed to fix his complaint about the transmission. i tried to tell him that to fix the defect GM has with this vehicle the vehicle needs to be tuned by HP tuners to stop the torque converter shudder. This vehicle is locked by GM to tune it. The computer has to be sent   to HP tuners to unlock access to it. that costs $300 plus freight. Then when the computer is received back and installed in the vehicle it has to be tuned and that costs $700. I am willing to pay half of this cost. He Must bring the vehicle to my shop. this process takes 5 to 8 days. If this is not acceptable to him. I am prepared to take this to small claims court. I have a great amount of evidence to prove this is a common problem with this vehicle and HP Tuners is the only way to fix it.

I am rejecting this response because:

I have already taken my vehicle to a different shop and got a new transmission that is programmed. I am requesting a full refund for the transmission I purchased from Charles that he is claiming he programed which is clearly false because I took my vehicle to the GM dealership, they hooked their scanner up to it and it said it was not programmed. I would also like a refund for all the rentals I had to get in order for him to fix my transmission which should have been done right the first time. I also showed Charles where the GMs scanner said it was not programmed. Charles then said it needed to be programmed by HP tuners after he already told me it was programmed.
