Both the Chicago BBB and ********************************** have refused to accept a complaint against "UStorage" due to (apparently) this occurring in 2023. This company provides services nation-wide, and is based in *******, **. See complaint below: My daughter was deceived by Ustorage misleading advertising and billing scheme. Ustorage is the Preferred (storage) Provider of ******************************************** (***) and sponsored/hosted on the *** web-site. The web-page for the university's preferred provider is *******************************************. Caption appears stating, "Only pay for what you store. Thats it!" Nowhere on the site do "valuation" and "pickup" fees appear. In 2023, she opted for the university sponsored Preferred Provider that advertised a remarkably lower "storage" fee, but then the vendor cleverly built hidden costs into an innovative billing scheme on the backend that re-captured industry-norm storage fees into creative line items such as "pickup" and "valuation." The Ustorage web-site even boasts of lower costs by providing a (misleading) cost comparison table. See their website that is STILL pushing this. The verbiage of "pickup" and "valuation" spooked auditors (and rightly so!) and this was declared an unallowable expense. Garnishment followed. ************* and clever advertising on behalf of the university-sponsored vendor? Absolutely. Is GWU knowledgeable of this scheme? How could they not be? A closer look will likely establish collusion GWU culpability in this matter cannot be separated. Fiscal life as a student in ******** profit-driven higher education world is challenging enough without an esteemed institution like *** endorsing this trickery.
