Contractor was hired to repair storm damage, build a wood carport with a plastic underside, repair, replace a wood porch, and fix some interior in our living room. The contractor has submitted to us an inflated invoice with multiple overcharges and misrepresentations. He labeled wood structures, carport, and porch, as metal, inflating their value by thousands of dollars. Material cost, labor, and cleanup charges are all significantly above standard market rates. There’s also a $1200 miscellaneous fee with no breakdown. He also has other things in there like acoustic ceiling tiles when the ceiling is now drywall. He also has that he replaced crown molding I estimate the at $13,700 based on comparisons with fair industry pricing. I have asked the contractor for itemization and clarification, and he has not responded with adequate justification . It appears he is intentionally misrepresenting the scope and cost of work to maximize insurance reimbursement. the ceiling that was not replaced at all. He put in a sanding and re-staining the baseboards on the floors when they were not sanded or re-stained atall. He also even has costs in there for moving the furniture from one room to another when my husband moved the furniture himself each time. He has replacing shutters at about a $700 value and all the replaced is one set of shutters on the second story. He has window work in the quote when the only thing to deal with the window was an employee of his who broke the window. He also has jumped double charging for profit as general overhead and contractor profit, which are the same as exact amount. So there are a lot of eye-opening charges on this provided that are absolute faults misrepresentations of the work that has been done on the house. He also has already been paid for the roof which you see for $6105.21. Yet he tries to recharge on this invoice $8544 for the even though he has already been paid for it. So that’s tacking on another $2400.
