I paid $4,300 for a ‘new’ air conditioning unit, installed 4/19/24. The company I paid won’t send me the warranty certificate. I asked 4 times over 2 months. I’m afraid they installed a used or defective unit. I’m ** so more likely to be cheated than young people.

    Business Response

    Date: 08/01/2024

    Good morning,

McDevitt Air installed a new 2024 ******* heat pump condensing unit at ** **** **** ****. The equipment was registered with ******* on behalf of the homeowner. A copy of the registration has been to sent to the homeowner via mail and email. The registration is also attached to this complaint.

******* identifies the age of the equipment in the first four digits of a serial number. The first two digits indicate the week the unit was manufactured. The third and fourth digits indicate the year the unit was manufactured. In this case, the serial number is **********. This unit was manufactured the 15th week of 2024.

McDevitt Air has been in business for 45 years. We have never "cheated" any customer or installed used or defective equipment.

    Thank you,
    ******** ********

I am rejecting this response because:

The attached file from McDevitt is named '** **** **** ** warranty certificate.pdf', but it is not a warranty certificate, so that file name is misleading.  If you open the file and look at the document you will see it is titled 'Product Registration', and below the row with the serial number the document states 'Each piece of equipment has unique warranty coverage.  Please print a copy of this product registration confirmation and retain it with a warranty certificate for each product and your proof of purchase records.  If you do not have a copy of the warranty certificate(s), please contact your installing dealer or visit the product manual page to print a copy.'

McDevitt did not send me the warranty certificate.  In the pdf, the word 'page' is underscored as if it is a link to the warranty certificate, but it is not a link, just an underscored word.

I called *******, the manufacturer, and they agreed what was emailed to me is not the warranty certificate.  ******* describes it in writing as 'warranty certificate', but the agent called it a 'warranty card'.  ******* emailed the warranty certificate/card to me.  It is disappointing that staff at McDevitt couldn't provide to me what the manufacturer requests of them.

    ******** ********

    Regards,
