Dear Better Business Bureau, My name is **** ***** ******, this is a formal HCI College complaint. On March 11 of 2024 I was suspended from my two year RN Nursing program at HCI College ********************** located at ************************************************************. I was half way through my program (one year in) as an all A student. Half of the program was solely online and the rest was clinicals. Everything was going great until ********* ******* personally called me on my first day of clinicals to inform me that I was not to attend my first day of class on campus nor could I shadow the class because she didn't receive my varicela test result from the lab, although the rest of the results were in. I calmly told her I would be waiting to hear from her back. I then called the lab and asked them if the test results were in because I had gotten tested more than two weeks before my first day of school, to which they confirmed they had already sent them. I was allowed back to my school on my second day of clinicals and that same day ********* ******* suspended me from my program altogether when I shared my concerns with her of the 10 hours I missed on my first clinical day and that I was super behind on the homework we had to do, although I was in distress I kept my voice quiet and my attitude was polite towards her being that this was a really important program to me in my personal and career growth. She quickly got irritated and asked me if I wanted to go home when I shared my concerns with her. At first I thought she wanted to let me go home so I could catch up but then she told me she was going to call the security to ****** me as if I were a criminal.

Upon entering the on-campus core portion of the Associate Degree in Nursing (***) program, after successfully completing the online general education requirements, the student was suspended and ultimately dismissed from HCI College and the *** program for violating the Student Code of Conduct.

The violations took place during, and immediately after, a meeting with the Director of Nursing concerning delays in the students clinical coursework. HCI College policy mandates that students are not permitted to begin their core *** classes until all required pre-clinical documentation has been submitted. The student was made aware of this policy throughout enrollment, including upon admission, when the student signed the HCI College Vaccination Disclosure reminding applicants of the following: Clinical students are required to be fully vaccinated prior to clinical assignment. If a student is unable to meet the requirements for clinical assignment, the student will not be able to progress in the program and will be withdrawn. Any charges associated with the withdrawal will be the responsibility of the student. Additionally, the Clinical Coordinator and Director of Nursing communicated with the student on multiple occasions prior to class start, expressing concern about her outstanding pre-clinical requirements and the potential consequences these deficiencies could have on her clinical rotation.

The decision to dismiss the student from HCI College and the *** program was made by the HCI College ********************** after reviewing evidence of behavior inconsistent with the level of ethical conduct that is expected of the students at HCI College.Evidence included statements of witnesses and the statements that the College received from the student.

The Director of Nursing and a third-party Security Guard provided eyewitness testimony that the student demonstrated behavior that does not meet the requirements of the Student Code of Conduct outlined in the College catalog. The College is clear regarding violations of the Student Code of Conduct. Referenced below are the infractions that caused the determination of the dismissal:

    - Failure to abide by college policies
    - Negative, derogatory, inappropriate or profane comments about other HCI students, ************ or HCI staff whether in-person or through digital medium
    - The harassment or bullying of other HCI students, ************ or HCI staff whether in-person or through digital medium
    - Inappropriate or profane behavior that causes a disruption of teaching, research, administration, disciplinary proceedings, or other College activities

Accordingly, the student was formally withdrawn.

My daughter enrolled at this school, and loans were taken out with payments made. After completing one full semester, she was suddenly blocked from her classes due to a claim of no funding. I received emails instructing me to apply for loans again, but I clearly explained that I have no income and would not be approved. Despite multiple emails, phone calls, and voicemails left for financial aid and the ****, no one has responded or helped resolve this ******** addition, one of the staff members answering the phone has been extremely rude and unprofessional, using phrases like like I said and if youd listen to what Im saying while speaking to me. This behavior is unacceptable, especially when we are simply trying to get support. This situation has blocked my daughter from continuing the education she already started, and it appears the school is more focused on collecting money than supporting students. We are requesting immediate action to resolve this issue and restore her access to classes. Or give us a refund for what was already paid on her behalf so she can put it towards completion of her education somewhere else.
