      I saw an advertisement in The Village Newspaper placed by Bates Exterminating giving special deal for their services. I contacted Bates Exterminating about lawn service. On 03/28/2025 a representative from Bates Exterminating named ****** was sent out. I explained that my husband &I do our own mowing, trimming, fertilizing and bug spraying. I told ****** this year after seeing their ad for fertilizing & spraying the shrubs if he could guarantee their service could get rid of white flies and any fungus I would hire them. ****** assured me Bates Exterminating could get rid of the issue. I signed a contract with ****** paying him $456. On 03/31 a young man from ********************** sprayed some *************** substance on lawn. My lawn started dying in places & white flies still present. On 05/08 ********************** Tech ***** came I showed him lawn problems & white flies still present. He sprayed areas said he couldnt due some services due to heat. My lawn in spots turning ****** dying, evidence of something chewing blades. I called 05/19 spoke to *******, told her problem, asked for mgr to call me, no call, 05/27 called again spoke to *******, no return call, called 05/30 spoke to ***** told her lawn dying want my money back, she said Mr ********************** would call me- no call, I called again 06/02 spoke to ****** told her we want money back she said she would have Mr ********************** call me as of today 06/03/2025 no call from Mr **********************, no call from manager and lawn continuing to day and more white flies evident. My lawn is not dying due to improper watering, it is getting plenty of water, which I measure. We want our money back. I feel this company is taking advantage of senior citizens by taking their money and not providing the service they promised. I would like BBB to help us get our money back. Thank you

      Greetings,

      I haven’t heard back from this company at all.  I did make additional calls since I filed the complaint.

      On 6/02/2025 I called and spoke to Hailey, asked to talk to Mr Bates.  I told her I wanted a refund of our money.  She said she would have Mr Bates call me.    No call from Mr Bates or anyone from the Bates Exterminating. 

      On 06/16/2025 I called and spoke to Carol Svenson, listed on the license as Office Manager, told her we wanted a refund, she said the only one who could help us with the is Mr Bates.  She further stated she had just gotten off the phone with Mr Bates and would call him right away and have him call me.    Carol is the same person I spoke to on 05/30/2025 who said she had just gotten off the phone with Mr Bates and would have him call me.  So this is the second time Carol said she had just gotten off the phone with Mr Bates and would have him call me right back.  I have yet to receive a call from Mr Bates.

      We want a refund.  Our grass is being eaten up by some kind of pests, we have brown spots and dead grass areas.  We live in The Villages and are required to maintain our yard to a certain standard.  We need to hire another company but we need a refund from Bates to be able to pay a new company.    What is the status of this company? Are they ripping off other senior citizens?

      10/26/2023 I contacted Bates Exterminating about an urgent ant problem in my home. The receptionist said shed have my technician call me.10/30/2023 (early in the day)Since I never received a call back, I called and spoke to the representative again. She stated that my technician had been contacted. She said shed have him contact me right away. I stated that I was unsure that I wanted my technician to do the work since he hadnt yet contacted me. I also mentioned that my technician looked very sketchy when he last serviced outside my home.10/31/2023 (late in the day)Since I still had not received contact from my technician, I called and spoke to the representative again. I told her that Id like to cancel my service contract with **********************, since I was not receiving requested services. I told her that I was very upset with their customer service. She said I couldnt cancel my services, since I was paid up through 04/24/2024. Then I said that all I want is to have the interior of my home sprayed for ants. I stated to just forget what I said about the technician and make arrangements to spray my home. The receptionist said they wouldnt service my home until I spoke with Mr. ********************** about my grievances. I said Id be happy to to speak with him and asked if I could talk to him right then. She said that hed have to contact me. I asked if he would contact me that day, or soon, and she didnt answer.12/13/2023 I still have not received a call back from Mr. **********************. Ive been waiting 47 days! I think this is very unprofessional. I would like to cancel my contract and received reimbursement of the cost of my payment for my contact from 10/26 through the time this complaint is remedied. Apologies from the angry receptionist and Mr. ********************** would also be appreciated.

      I am very sorry that we did not ************ enough to your request for service.
      Our service technician ***** called ****************** and serviced the home today. He met with ****************** and treated for the ant problem. There are no more ants.
      We have been servicing *********************** home since April 1,2021 without one complaint and will continue to treat their home for lawn and pest controls services.
