Universal Heat & Air Conditioning Inc Response
08/26/2021
Universal Heating and Air Conditioning , Inc. is called out about 7000 times per year to investigate and diagnose problems with a heat pump or a gas heater. It is our job to determine if there is a factory defect with heaters that are covered under the factory warranty. When someone calls stating they have a leaking heat pump, they either do or they do not. It's either normal condensation or a pool water leak. Out of roughly 100 per year heat pumps, where that is the complaint, I would say about half of those call outs are determined to be normal condensation. So, we have about 50 calls per year that are not factory defects. Therefore, are not covered under any type of warranty. We are asked by the pool heat pump manufacturers to collect our service call fee from the homeowners for non-warranty situations. Which this is explained to every homeowner at scheduling. MOST homeowners understand the situation and pay us for our time.
Mr. ***** called twice. The first complaining of a water leak, which we explained was condensation and that heat pumps produce a lot of condensation while running ( up to 6-10 gallons per hour) depending on the relative humidity. When we arrive at Mr. *****'s home, the heat pump was not running and the inside and outside of the heat pump was dry. A performance check was done and it was normal condensation that was being seen.
The second time we were called out was 3 weeks later. The description, was again, heater was leaking water and the remote control was not communicating with the heat pump. A different tech described inside the heat pump as bone dry and again it was noted the heat pump was off upon arrival. It was also noted by the second tech that the heat pump was not set up to control remotely, which he set back up for you. Mr *****, if we did disconnect you from controlling your heat pump remotely, we apologize and no way should you have gotten a bill for that.
We always try to screen calls, due to the fact that no one wants to pay a service call fee when there is nothing wrong. The first technician was there for 40 minutes and the second for 36 minutes. I don't know why you make it sound like we just showed up and did not do anything. With every call we check for proper performance, which takes a little time.
You called "4 times now over 4 months"? We are puzzled with that. Your comment "stay away from this company", is very unfair Mr. *****.
We are also confused over the fact that you stated you were still getting bills as your account was discounted to $0.00 on 7/21/21 and your account was noted and the manufacturer was updated.
