Dynamic Mechanical serviced my geothermal HVAC system on March 11, 2025 to determine why we were having problems with high electricity bills caused by our 14-year-old HVAC system. During the testing, the technician placed a screw in the refrigerant line, basically ruining the air conditioning (AC). Since this time, we've had two other geothermal contractor companies evaluate our geothermal HVAC for replacement (a $25,000 investment), and both contractors (unprompted) separately told us it appeared our geothermal HVAC had been "sabotaged" when this screw was placed in the refrigerant line. I would like to be refunded/ compensated for the visit which made our geothermal HVAC system air conditioning inoperable. Also, I wanted to complain about this unethical business practice by Dynamic Mechanical.

We appreciate the opportunity to respond to the complaint filed by *** **** ***** regarding her HVAC unit serviced by our company. We take customer feedback seriously and aim to address any concerns with transparency and professionalism. We have no call logs or messages that this problem ever existed until it was sent by the BBB. Once we learned of this we immediately called and left a VM for **** as i would never want to ignore such a complaint.

*** ***** began service with us in late September 2024 after terminating her previous provider, ****** **********, due to concerns about their service and competency. Since taking over her unit, we have diligently assessed its condition. However we were never involved in the units necessary annual maintenance .

In February 2025, after an energy audit conducted by another contractor, *** ***** expressed concerns about her unit’s energy consumption. They claimed 3x the expected energy consumption. In response, we were hired to performed a thorough examination and discovered several issues, including low refrigerant levels, low water pressure, and low glycol levels. To identify any potential leaks, we suggested a pressure test and added UV dye to the system, which successfully highlighted areas needing attention. See the attached pictures of the leaks.

At this stage, *** ***** requested quotes for replacement rather than repairs, indicating her preference for a new unit. We understand that she is now seeking a refund for our services; however, we must respectfully decline this request. Our evaluation and recommended actions were based on the condition of the unit at the time of service.

It is also worth noting that *** ***** has engaged multiple service providers, leaving room for other possible situations to affect the unit's performance. We believe that attributing the issues solely to our work is unfounded.

We kindly ask *** ***** to reconsider her negative online reviews, as they do not accurately reflect the quality of our service or the efforts we made to address her concerns. Our leak test exposed leaks in her system that we immediately brought to her attention. We are committed to maintaining our reputation for integrity and quality service in the community. We find it unfair to blame something so horrible as intentionally damaging her unit. Stating so is slanderous and absolutely not accurate.

    Sincerely

    Hello BBB:

Thank you for the follow-up and the issue has been resolved after speaking with the owner. The owner Nathan outreached to me via telephone and assured me the way the HVAC system was tested, there was no intention of sabotaging the HVAC, and he also confirmed this after speaking with the technician. He also assured me I would receive a refund. Nathan was very easy to speak with and was very honest and forthcoming.

Thanks again for the follow-up, and I'm glad we could get this totally resolved within a short period of time!

Here is an email which I sent to the owner of the company on 2/16/2024: As I mentioned yesterday, we lost heat yesterday afternoon and even though we temporarily had some heat this morning following a visit from another local company, the furnace decided to make a strange sound and then shut off as our 2nd quote was being made this afternoon.....I’m not going to go over the grounds of activities in January but you know we’re exceptionally disappointed.... Before the visit in January, I had spent $10,500.20 in the last 12 months (probably more with a couple of call outs too!). The recent experience in January has left a significant sour taste in our mouths and I feel especially aggrieved that we were convinced to spend $2,300 on work..... We’ve had two locally well known companies come out and quote for the replacement furnace to get the alternate option. Firstly I’ll say that they were both surprised about 2 things with the work in January undertaken by Dynamic (I did not mention your company by name): 1) that we would spend $2.3k on a furnace of this age (approx. 15 years old) and 2) that the cost came out at that for the little amount of replacement work that was undertaken. I am giving that back to you straight as you know I’m not in the business of HVAC replacements but I’m exceptionally disappointed that I now have two companies who have said that even for that work, the costs would not have been near $2.3k. ...
It goes without saying, heightened by our January experience and the fact our trust in your company’s service has dropped, that we cannot pursue any of the replacement furnace quotes.
I’d like to revisit the charges you made to us in January and I would like to discuss options to refund that invoice for the work done. We have not seen any value nor benefit of having that work done. Given the reaction of two other professionals, clearly we were overcharged even if the work had cured the problem - which it had not.

    Customer Answer

    Date: 06/05/2024

Yes it is correct that they offered a discount if we purchased a new furnace from them. The quotes they gave for the options were much higher than the comparative options from 2 other providers for higher quality (from what we researched being non-professionals) mechanicals.

The cost of the fix on 1/2/2024 was $2,234.96. This was the fix that they recommended strongly rather than replacing. The other two options were a $380 minor wiring, or $783.68 which was again, a minor wiring fix. No options on the table to replace the furnace and the strong recommendation was to fix.

We got quotes for Dynamic to replace knowing that day may come (I wanted to weigh up options as I was getting a release of some funds around February) to make an informed decision on whether we replace before the following winter. I do not recall an intimation that I was going to replace it at the time of the issues we have nor was there a recommendation to do so from Dynamic.

We did not replace the last time Dynamic came as we wanted to get alternate quotes.

My Requested resolution is to receive the cost of the fix back from 1/2/2024. Based on comments by the two other HVAC companies, Dynamic cost of fixing (which was done in the height of winter with 2 young children in the house and us needing to heat up the house), the costs were unnecessary and the wrong course of action as well as being over charged based on the work they did

I am rejecting this response because: the business has made no proposal to resolve the complaint. The business alleges that there were comments made to mislead. There was not. Please see full response in previous commentary

I have a geothermal system in my home which was having issues this summer (2022). The first issue happened when the cooling was not keeping up. I had Dynamic Mechanical come out to repair it on 5/19. I was charged $1300.88 for the service. The next month I received my electric bill from ********** and it was $1045 and showed an average kw use per day of 166.1. This was outrageously higher than normal usage (for example, in 2021 I used 29.37 kw/day in the same month, and in 2020, I used 37.16 kw/day in the same month). I called Dynamic Mechanical upon receiving this bill. They came out on 6/23/22 to evaluate the problem. It was found that a switch on fuse box was left switched on, when it should not have been resulting in the system running nonstop for a month. As soon as it was shut off, my electric bill returned to normal.
In November, I had trouble with the geothermal system again, this time not keeping up with heating. I again had Dynamic Mechanical come out and evaluate the system. On 11/23/22, someone from the company came out and evaluated the system and adjusted a few things including a temperature on the water heater. I was charged $426.41 for the service. I mentioned what had happened with my electric bill over the summer and was assured it should not be an issue again. However, I received my electric bill the next month, and again it was astronomically higher than normal. I was charged $811.37 with 107.87 kw/day usage. As a comparison, the past 2 years usage was 66.03 kw/day in 2021, and 67.1 kw/day in 2020. I called Dynamic Mechanical and again they sent a technician out who fixed the issue (which he agreed was caused by the technician who raised the water heater temp on 11/23/22). I called and asked to speak to a manager/owner of Dynamic Mechanical on 12/19/22, 12/21/22, and 12/27/22. I have not received a call back. I feel that I am owed a refund for the billed services as this would essentially cover the increased electric bills from their services.
