  Benjamin Franklin Plumbing *************************************************** Three times in February and early March this company attempted to clear our main sewer discharge line either by snaking or hydro jet at a total cost of approximately $1517.On the third try it was recommended that the line be replaced which I agreed to at a cost of $9881, estimated to be 80ft. of excavation and maximum eight hours labor, which I approved.Upon excavation of the line it was determined that the grade of the line was near zero with no way of getting the recommended slope, except with either septic tank elevation change, or install a sump and grinder pump. I accepted the sump system the least costly and most expeditious solution. The cost quoted was $5500, I accepted this amount, trusting that this company would be a fair and honorable business. While I was pleased with the performance and quality of work performed by the field personnel, I am extremely disappointed in the final project.I dont object to the original cost I am disappointed in that some credit wasnt given for the failed line clearing. I am extremely upset with the cost charged for the sump system. After a little research I found the cost of Pro380 sump system with the hp LP382LE51 pump list for approximately $691 at three different providers ******** Plumbing, ********** and ******.Considering that the area with exception of an addition of a hole of about 3ftX3ft was already excavated, the crew and equipment were already on site no additional mobilization was required. Just estimating with a riser and some additional PVC total material about $1158 and not knowing the hourly rate of the crew say $500 for extra labor, total $1658 and then round to $2000 total, I believe the price quoted over charged me $3500. I had requested an itemized bill but was refused. I do believe this was a case of violating the trust of a senior citizen and indicative of price gouging.
