On May 27, 2025, I brought my 2015 ****** RAV4 to Midas Boulder (************************************, *** for a jerky movement when stopping/accelerating. They charged me $79 for a wheel-related repair, but the issue persisted. On June 16, 2025, I returned and was told the transfer case assembly needed to be replaced. On June 17, 2025, ********************* ****** provided a second opinion and did not find major transfer case issues, but I trusted Midas and proceeded. On July 7, 2025 I authorized the repair for $3,974.24 with a 180-day warranty. I incurred a rental vehicle cost of $371.73 during the repair period. On July 22, 2025, I returned again because of the same issue, and Midas repaired an EVAP code, after which the jerky movement seemed resolved. However, on August 10, 2025, while driving on I-70 with my family, the vehicle suddenly failed. I had to tow it at a cost of $407. Midas later diagnosed total transmission failure.Despite the warranty, Midas denied responsibility, claiming the transmission issue was unrelated. However, the transfer case repair was misdiagnosed, extremely costly, and did not prevent the failure of a related drivetrain component. Total losses so far:$3,974.24 (repair)$371.73 (rental)$407.00 (towing)= $4,752.97 Efforts to resolve:Sent a formal demand letter to Midas Corporate and Boulder store on Aug 13, 2025.Spoke directly with the district manager (***** **********), who maintained Midas had no responsibility.I am requesting a refund of $4,752.97 or an alternative resolution such as a partial refund and coverage of my expenses.

    Business Response

    Date: 09/02/2025

    Dear Better Business Bureau,
I am writing in response to case the service concern raised by Mr. ****** *** regarding his ****** RAV4 serviced at Midas in Boulder, *********
Upon Mr. **** last visit, diagnostic testing identified two codes: P0746, indicating a pressure control solenoid issue within the transmission, and P0711, relating to the transmission fluid temperature sensor and suggesting overheating within the transmission system. Prior to that visit, the transfer case had been replaced after both Midas and ***** Interstate ****** determined the noise the customer originally reported was coming from the transfer case. At that time, the vehicle was operating correctly when it left the shop, and as Mr. *** confirmed, it continued to perform well for approximately one month following the repair. The transmission concerns did not appear until after his recent trip coming from **************
Both ****** Interstate ****** and Midas determined that replacing the transfer case was the proper diagnosis and the correct course of action at that time. During the original inspections, neither ***** nor Midas found transmission-related codes or warning lights present this can be confirmed by ******* invoice which was submitted by the customer as well as our inspection which is attach, again both stating that not transmission codes were found during the time of inspection. Based on this information, we have affirmed that the transmission concerns now present are unrelated to the previous transfer case repair. As a result, these issues would not fall under warranty coverage.
That said, we remain committed to fairness and transparency in resolving this matter. If Mr. *** has supporting diagnostic information that suggests otherwise, we are open to reviewing that documentation in good faith. Furthermore, we are also willing to arrange for the vehicle to be inspected at another Midas location.
We value our customers and take concerns like this seriously. Our goal is to ensure that every customer feels heard and treated fairly. We appreciate the opportunity to provide clarification to the Better Business Bureau and to Mr. **** and we will continue to make ourselves available to review any additional findings related to this matter.
    Sincerely,
    ***** **********
    District manager
