Perplexity charged a recurring fee of $21.19 to my credit card. I neither supplied that card to them or authorized them to charge to it. I was totally unaware of the transaction until I received my credit card statement.Initial Complaint

I am submitting this complaint regarding Perplexity AI, a company that has failed to uphold basic data privacy responsibilities and has shown a complete lack of transparency and accountability in handling user data.On [insert exact or approximate date], I submitted a formal request to Perplexity AI to have my personal data deleted from their systems, in accordance with standard data privacy regulations and policies. Despite multiple follow-ups, it has now been over six months, and I have received no confirmation, no status update, and no assurance that my data has been deleted.This ongoing delay and lack of communication are unacceptable and demonstrate a serious disregard for user privacy. The company has not provided:A confirmation of data deletion;Any timeline for resolving the issue;Any communication or acknowledgment of the extended delay.I have made reasonable efforts to obtain a response and resolution directly from Perplexity AI, but they have failed to act or respond appropriately. On October 30, 2024, I registered for the Perplexity (***********************) service using the promotional code FREEPROUNIVERSE for a free annual *** subscription. The payment process through ****** was completed successfully, and I received a confirmation email from Perplexity.I began using the *** services and exploring the platform. However, later that day, I received an email from Perplexity stating that I had requested the termination of my *** subscription, which I had not. They unilaterally decided to terminate the subscription and deactivate my account.Upon investigating through their support service on Discord, I discovered that the code FREEPROUNIVERSE was an internal leak and not meant to be public. Consequently, Perplexity canceled all users who signed up with that code.Additionally, I attempted to review the terms and conditions on their website, but access was blocked by a script. I have recorded evidence of this issue, captured using my mobile phone, as the script also blocked my laptops screen recorder.We, the end users, are not responsible for the public release of the code, and it was validated on their payment platform. Therefore, I believe Perplexity should honor the services for those who completed the payment process without any issues.Other affected users have also contacted the platform, claiming that the termination was unjust. It was Perplexitys error, and they canceled all beneficiaries of the promotion.I can provide all confirmation emails, conversations, and the message received from Perplexity as evidence.Thank you for your attention to this matter. I have made several attempts to contact customer support and have received only one response which was simply a denial that there is a paywall for an advertised free service. The issue with the free service occurs within their Android app version, which states that three file uploads are permitted daily. However, when following the instructions of their FAQ, clicking on the + icon redirects to a paywall where the only option is to "Upgrade" and no files can be uploaded otherwise. To be specific, this issue does not occur in the web-browser UI, but does occur in the Android app UI. Furthermore, Perplexity AI offers an option to contact customer support, but they do not respond. I have also attempted to report product malfunctions (which I won't elaborate on here) for which all efforts have been ignored. As a paying customer, or subscriber to their services, and possibly by FTC guidelines, they should reply to inquiries and support requests. Presently they do not.Initial Complaint

I am writing to file a formal complaint against Perplexity AI concerning their Pro subscription service. As an annual subscriber, I was enticed to join based on the explicit advertising of the ****4 Turbo feature, which was a decisive factor in my decision to subscribe. Despite this, Perplexity AI has removed the ****4 Turbo feature without providing a comparable replacement or offering any form of compensation, such as a partial refund.The loss of this service has significantly diminished the value of the subscription, impacting not just myself but potentially all annual subscribers.
